Warning: this article contains spoilers from season eight, episode five of Game of Thrones...

If you watched yesterday's penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, you will have seen Varys (AKA the Spider) being burned to death by Daenerys' dragon Drogon for betraying the (Mad) Queen.

Take another look at the pretty horrifying way Varys dies:

But there are a lot of characters and there's a lot going on - what with all the battles and the ever-growing death toll - so it's likely you missed a couple of other little details the writers have included in every episode.

One detail you most likely missed - because literally everyone did - was Varys trying to poison Daenerys. Yep, that totally happened - all under your nose.

It didn't escape the notice of the show's more attentive viewers that Varys had been trying to get Martha, a minor character from the kitchen, to poison the Mother of Dragons on his behalf.

Here's how the sly conversation went down:

All that talk of 'risks' and the stress of being caught by Dany's soldiers has led some fans to believe that the girl wasn't just responsible for delivering food to Daenerys.

And also taking into account his deceitful behaviour, it does very much seem that Varys was trying to poison Daenerys.

As per usual, a number of fans took to Twitter to share support for the theory:

Well, in any case, Varys' plan didn't work out too well for him considering Daenerys quite fittingly ended up having him killed for treason.
