As she repeatedly dies and relives the same night over and over, she embarks on a mind-bending journey of self-discovery. And in a wink to the 1989 Bill Murray film with a similar premise, the first season premiered on February 1, just ahead of Groundhog's Day.

"I started thinking about a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' kind of party where you take home each different person from the party," Lyonne explained Broadly last January. "I would still end up feeling hollow at the end of it, somehow. I’d still be stuck with myself. This idea that we are starving to death with limitless choices but are stuck with our own broken selves until we kind of resolve what it is to have a meaningful life."

"This show is heavily autobiographical," the Orange Is The New Black star continued. "It’s also heavily fictionalized. It’s almost like a superhero version of me, a person I’d like to be. The person my character is at the end of the show is closer to who I am today. Who she is at the beginning of the show is closer to who I was 15 years ago."

Amy Poehler, Natasha Lyonne and Leslye Headland created the existential dark comedy, which stars Lyonne, Chloe Sevigny, Charlie Barnett, Greta Lee, Yul Vazquez and Elizabeth Ashley. The "endlessly inventive" first season received rave reviews, earning a remarkable 96% rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Lyonne and Netflix vice president of originals Cindy Holland announced the season two renewal on Tuesday during a joint appearance at the Recode's Code Conference in Arizona. "Same show, just weirder," Lyonne said. "The character is a coder so it would be appropriate to have this be the time and place to say, yes. So very much yes, I would love to do [a second season]."

Some viewers thought the eight-episode first season finale had the perfect ending, making additional seasons unnecessary. However, the show's creators actually pitched Russian Doll to Netflix as a three-season vision. "When initially pitched, Nadia was a presence throughout all three of them," Headland told The Hollywood Reporter in February. "But it was not in a very conventional way."

Well, we'll see what that means soon, unless we die and are forced to relive the same day over and over again. No release date has been announce yet for season two. In the meantime, Natasha Lyonne fans can catch her in the final season of Orange Is The New Black, which premieres on Netflix on July 26.
