Game of Thrones has become nothing short of legendary for its epic and bloody battle scenes.

The producers' penchant for killing off fan-favorite characters is now so much a part of the show that we know fine well we are going to lose at least a few familiar faces in its final season.

But, as ever, the question of 'who?' remains a mystery.

"The most heroic thing we can do is look the truth in the face," Sansa says at the beginning of the teaser.

Images of the battle to come are then shown, with Grey Worm ominously donning his helmet. This is followed by each of the main characters' reactions, with Jon Snow saying: "The Night King is coming."

In response, Daenerys firmly replies: "The dead are already here."

The importance of this episode and the scale of the battle within are no secret. Last year, Vladimír Furdík, the actor who plays the Night King, described it as an "historic moment".

"In the third episode of the last season, there is a battle that the creators intended to be a historic moment in television," he said.

"Almost the full episode will be about the battle, it will take about one hour."

To put the scale of the battle into context, Digital Spy reported that it took 55 nights to film.

Prior to the battle, Jon did everything he could to rally the living against the dead and naively trusted that Cersei Lannister would be true to her word.

However, as we learned in the first episode of season eight, she is only out for herself (surprise surprise) and was upset that Euron Greyjoy didn't bring the Golden Company's elephants to King's Landing.

Despite this betrayal and the lack of living soldiers to fight the dead, the battle for Winterfell may end up with some unexpected support... or be even more devastating.

"So is it possible we have old Starks rising from the crypts? Or is that too far fetched? PLUS we saw in multiple previews Arya fighting in the crypts with her new weapon…"

Digital Spy also previously reported that episode three will run at a colossal 82 minutes long - more than enough time to provide fans with what promises to be a truly epic battle.

However, because these are Stark dead, perhaps they might not be under the control of the Night King and give the living the advantage they need to stand a chance against the army of the dead.

I guess we will just have to wait until episode three airs to find out!
