The very first transgender and non-binary Jedi have been introduced into the Star Wars universe.
Sharing both the news and the cover on the official Star Wars social media channels, the post read:
"In honor of #TransDayOfVisibility we're proud to unveil an exclusive cover highlighting Terec and Ceret, trans non-binary Jedi, currently featured in Marvel's The High Republic comic.
"We support trans lives and we are passionate and committed to broadening our representation in a galaxy far far away. #TDOV"
Star Wars also unveiled a variant cover for an upcoming edition of their comic book series The High Republic, in which the new Jedi - named Terec and Ceret - can be seen wielding their lightsabers.
The cover was illustrated by Javier Garrón, and the edition will be released in June - coinciding with Pride Month.
According to the Star Wars fandom site Wookiepedia, Terec and Ceret are bond-twins from the planet Kotab (making their species Kotabi).
Terec and Ceret first appeared in The High Republic #2, and the fact they are "bond-twins" means that they share a shared consciousness.

But they're not the first non-binary characters to appear in the Star Wars universe. Non-binary pirate ruler Eleodie Maracavanya was introduced to fans back in 2016 in Chuck Wendig's canon novel Aftermath: Life Debt.
