There's a deleted scene from 'The Devil Wears Prada' that will change your view of Meryl Streep's character
The Noughties classic The Devil Wears Prada is undoubtedly best remembered for producing our generation's favourite ice-queen, Miranda Priestly.
When she wasn't busy terrorising nervous interns, Priestly was the editor-of-chief of the world's most prestigious fashion magazine, Runway. And naturally, she looked fabulous doing so; dressed in head-to-toe black, Miranda Priestly also sported Anna Wintour's signature sunglasses, solidifying the link between Runway and Vogue, and more pertinently the connection between her character and fashion's real-life ice-queen, Wintour.
I mean, sure, we got a lot of entertainment seeing Miranda Priestly terrorise Anne Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, but after watching the 2006 comedy-drama, I promised myself that I would never, ever subject myself to such treatment.
As I'm sure you remember, Miranda Priestly doesn't have a moment of redemption in the film - forever burning her into our minds as the remorseful but archetypical fashion boss. However, never-seen-before footage has revealed that Miranda may have had a genuine reason to act in the manner she did.
Buzzfeed's Spencer Althouse discovered the deleted scene and promptly shared it on his Twitter account. It's an extended take of the first black-tie event of the film. Miranda's two assistants, Andy (Anne Hathaway) and Emily Blunt's character, Emily Charlton have been furiously memorising the names and background information about the people that Miranda will encounter during the evening. And of course, we know what happens, Emily messes up, and Andy saves the day, casting Emily Blunt's character out of Miranda's favour forever - in a rather cruel manner.
However, the extended footage presents us with Miranda's husband, and as you will see, he's really not very nice.
"I'm just seeing this deleted scene from The Devil Wears Prada for the first time, and honestly it changed the whole movie for me."
As one Twitter user aptly put it, this makes The Devil Wears Prada a "Whole. Other. Film." I mean, it's not hard to understand why Miranda acts the way she does, when she's got such a tyrannical husband waiting for her at home.
Naturally, Twitter had quite the reaction to the news. One person said that the addition was "fascinating", while another wrote, "I'm really angry I've seen that".
Regardless of how you feel about Miranda Priestly's married life, there's something else in the works for The Devil Wears Prada, and I'm certain that you'll like this news...
According to The Hollywood Reporter, two of showbiz's veritable stars, Elton John and Paul Rudnick are penning a musical adaption of The Devil Wears Prada. The broadway show will be based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling 2003 novel - which the film was also inspired by.
As of yet, however, there is no word on whether we're going to be seeing Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep or Emily Blunt reprise their old roles. But one can only hope! In other entertainment related news, here are all of the sneaky celebrity Game of Thrones cameos you've missed...
