There's a portrait of Lord Voldemort dancing in Hogwarts and everybody missed it
Even still, 20 years after the release of the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone book, the magic of the wizarding world holds as strong a spell as ever over fans.
Since that heady, momentous day, the series has gone on to dominate popular culture in hitherto unprecedented fashion. J.K. Rowling released seven truly astonishing books that managed to capture the imagination of children and adults alike, whipping them up into an effervescent, coruscating glow that still shows no signs of abating all these years later.
While J.K. Rowling covered an astonishing amount of ground over the course of the seven Harry Potter books, one feels sure that no amount of knowledge could ever sate the voracious appetite of the most ardent Potter fans - this writer among them. Indeed, such is the scope of the universe and its history; thrown as it is into tantalising relief by Rowling's books over a relatively short time period, that with each new revelation comes a whole new set of questions to be answered.
And now, in news that will stun and amaze Potter fans everywhere, it would appear that a portrait of none other than Lord Voldemort himself has been hiding in plain sight all this time in the Harry Potter movies.
Towards the beginning of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabhan, Potter and et al are attempting to gain entry to the Gryffindor common room by providing the password, 'Fortuna Major'. Unfortunately, the Fat Lady is a little preoccupied with her singing practice, which - it would be fair to say - is particularly painful listening for the surrounding contingent.
Everyone, that is, except the most powerful dark wizard of all time, Lord Voldemort. In fact, the Dark Lord seems to having a rare old time, jiving along to the Fat Lady's shrill vocal warm up.
Here's the Dark Lord getting down and groovy for your viewing pleasure. Be sure to keep a close eye on the right hand side of the staircase at the 1.17 mark:
Proof, I suppose that even the most evil dark wizard there ever was needs to kick back and let loose every now and then; after all, it can't be easy to manage an army of death eaters, chase a mortal enemy around Britain and fend of the lusty advances of Bellatrix Lestrange day after endless day.
Potter fans are whipping themselves into a veritable frenzy all over again in recent days after the first image of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel was revealed, decpicting an exciting cast that includes Johnny Depp as dark wizard Gellert Grindlewald and Jude Law as a young - and rather dashing - Albus Dumbledore.
Though there might never be another 'Harry Potter movie' in the traditional sense, the wizarding world continues to expand in ever more inventive and exciting ways, and one thing is for sure, the most passionate and dedicated fan base in the world isn't going to loose its appetite for more anytime soon.
