You might be familiar with something that most professional workplaces implement called the "Employee Handbook". It'll outline things like email etiquette, how to properly request holidays, and the maximum amount of time you can hold off from replying to an email before someone can tell you off for it (sorry Brenda, I promise I'm on it).

But unfortunately for people like Meghan Markle, most handbooks don't have a section titled "how to tell your co-workers you're going to marry a prince".

Before she became the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan was known for her role on Suits. She played Rachel Zane, one of the main characters and a key love interest in the show.

However, becoming a royal means leaving behind your personal career aspirations, and Meghan had no choice but to eventually quit acting and leave the show she'd been working on from 2011 to 2017. Of course, it was all done without too much of a fuss, and Rachel Zane avoided a sudden and tragic death as a means to exit the show.

Instead, Meghan's departure from the show was done rather smoothly, and that's probably because she gave the Suits cast and crew a fair bit of warning about when and why she would no longer be acting.

As for how the rest of the cast found out? Well, Meghan's on-screen father recently shared all.

Wendell Pierce, who played the high-powered attorney Robert Zane, spoke to Extra about how they all noticed something was up. According to him, they knew Meghan must've been getting serious with a member of British Royalty when the secret service started rocking up on set.

"I actually didn’t believe it was real, then all of a sudden I turn around and there is this guy from MI-5 on set every day," he said. But it wasn't just the James Bond-esque security squad that helped the cast clock on to who Meghan's new love interest was.

"The one thing that was clear, she was extremely happy… She had a glow," Wendell went on. "I knew she was in love... With the whirlwind of publicity and the world of being a royal now, the one thing that’s constant is the fact that I know she loves him."

However, Meghan's royal relationship caused a few complications too. It's reported that Meghan's name had to be removed from scripts and filming pages, just in case her schedule might be leaked to the press. The Suits cast were then apparently at risk of being fired if they accidentally shared where she was.

Wendell previously spoke about how Meghan would talk about Harry in code before it was revealed that he was her boyfriend. "She met this nice guy and we always talked about him in code, really. You know, ‘How you doing?’ ‘Oh, I’m going to London, coming from London, whatever,'" he said on Harry Connick Jr's talk show.

"It was just she and I in the room and I said, ‘I know your life is going to change but always know, no matter where you are, I will always be your loving fake father.'"
