Mom dresses her adorable baby as iconic women throughout history in amazing photoshoot
It's never too early to educate girls about feminism and women's rights I say, and Janelle Wexler is one mother who wholeheartedly agrees. The 36-year-old, who hails from McHenry, Illinois, has been paying homage to some of history's most iconic and influential women thanks to her sewing chops, and a very adorable four-month-old.
When her daughter, Liberty, was just three-weeks-old, Janelle came up with the ingenious idea of crafting an outfit for her that would resemble one of her favourite artists, Frida Kahlo. The resulting ensemble, which naturally included a teeny-tiny headpiece made from colourful flowers, was later posted to Instagram as well as a brief biography of Khalo, and her impact on Mexican society and beyond.
Janelle realised that she didn't have to stop at just Kahlo - I mean, why not pay tribute to all the other influential women that have done incredible things throughout history? "I just kept thinking of all different influential women that I wanted to dress her up as," she told People. "There were so many I could have her portray and help tell their stories."
Since then, Janelle has made her daughter over 20 costumes, which are all as "aww" inducing as they are informational.
"We come up with the idea and then I research the woman that I’m portraying. Then, I figure out their bio and what outfit I can come up with that is best going to portray the reference picture that I’m using," the hairstylist explained. "Then, my mind gets busy figuring out what kind of costume I can make her."
Janelle, who sews as a hobby, told the publication that she usually makes the costumes when Liberty and her 2-year-old son, River, are napping. "I try to make as much as I can during nap time or when the kids go to bed. Then, it’s usually ready first thing in the morning that I take the photos of her."
Liberty is reportedly "pretty chill" during the photoshoots, and thank godness, because the results are beyond cute.
