There are plenty of celebrities out there that I must admit, I would love to meet and hang out with. It's hard not to have that feeling, especially when certain actors, musicians, and other creatives have a charisma in public that just seems appealing. At the end of the day, however, we don't really know what these people are like.

When I really think about it, imagining what an encounter with one of my heroes would actually be like, it doesn't seem as alluring. If you really respect someone or have an emotional connection to their work, the odds are that you're going to mumble something weird in awestruck awkwardness. On top of that, you don't exactly want to interrupt their day or attract unwanted attention to them if they're out buying groceries.

This is the bizarre display Justin Bieber put on for fans who spotted him in New York:

Case in point, earlier this year, I saw renowned British actor Ian McKellen on the London Underground. And despite the fact that I was feet away from a man I'd spent hours of my life watching, I couldn't bring myself to even look at the dude. All I did was take a sneaky snap on my iPhone and scream "You shall not pass!" internally.

Yet, some celebs can fly under the radar easier than others can. In fact, musician Dotan Harpenau managed to have a long conversation with one of his biggest fans without her knowing who he was at all - and he live-tweeted the whole thing.

The Dutch artist was traveling on a plane when he noticed the girl sat next to him was listening to his album. He felt a little awkward, but it was a rare opportunity to see someone who enjoys his work without them getting stars in their eyes.

But even when he dropped hints that he was a musician too, she just didn't get it - leaving him wondering if he'd go the whole flight without her knowing what was going on.

After she didn't recognize the musician, at first, he decided to reveal himself on Twitter, but it was to no avail.

One user gave him the bright idea to leave her a note, and he said he'd try out the idea. But further into the journey she somehow still didn't realize who she was sat next to.

Things were taken to the next level when she started asking him about his writing process, not knowing she was effectively interviewing the same man she was listening to.

Even after hours of flight, he didn't let her know, basking in the compliments she didn't realize she was giving to the musician. And then things got even weirder as she played the music for him.

You'd have thought that, at this point, Dotan's facial expression would have given him away, but clearly, he's got some talent in the acting department too.

Once the plane landed and he was ready to leave, he decided to leave her with a parting gift.

But the story didn't end there. In a follow-up tweet posted later that day, Dotan revealed that she had got in touch once she had realized exactly what had happened. "I can't believe how stupid I am for not recognizing you and ignoring all the subtle hints you were giving me during the flight," she wrote, before letting him know exactly how much his music means to her.

"I wanted to stress out that it's nothing personal, but I would have loved to tell you in person how grateful I am for your music. I wouldn't recognize most of my favorite artists as I'm mostly just interested in the music. I even thought you were a band (shame on me)."

"The fact that you didn't mention it yourself is very humble, but I wish you would have told me! When I read your message, I grabbed my mom and we couldn't believe it. We've been through a rough patch and your music helped us to get through it. More than you can imagine."

According to her email, he even offered her tickets to see him play live! Must have been a huge shock to find out that not only are you getting free tickets to see a musician you love play, but you've been talking to him for hours without even knowing...

But all of this ultimately begs the question, could the girl have been that big a fan if she didn't recognize Dotan in the first place? Let us know in the poll below.
