Someone has worked out why Jay-Z called his album 4:44 and the reason is insane

2017 brought with it a lot of negative news. The world seems to be at war with itself, climate change is becoming a major issue and Hollywood was unveiled to be awash with sexual predators and abusers. However, while 2017 won't go down as one of the most enjoyable years, there have been a few highlights.

For fans of hip-hop, the return of Jay-Z was a particularly positive point of 2017. The rapper returned with his album 4:44 and it was a success both commercially and critically. The album saw Jay address his long-standing feud with fellow rapper Kanye West and wife Kim Kardashian, as well as open up about his relationship with his wife Beyonce and the infidelity rumours on his part.

Such is the power of HOV, the album went platinum in a week, showing that despite the fact he is 48-years-old, there is life in the old dog yet.

The album included some incredible, intimate tracks that aren't usually associated with Jay-Z and his form of music. There were tracks with his daughter, Blue Ivy, where she can be heard freestyling, as well as him opening up about his infidelity and his battles with his mental health. However, despite the general praise and adulation for the album, fans were left confused by the name. Why was it called 4:44? What did it mean? Well, it turns out that we finally have an answer - and it will leave you completely speechless.

According to a user on Twitter, 4:44 refers to the hotel well Jay-Z had his ass handed to him by Beyonce's sister, Solange. For those of you who don't remember this now-legendary encounter, check it out below.

Yep, that is Solange going full Floyd Mayweather on the multi-Grammy-award-winning artist. Apparently, according to this particular Twitter user, the hotel, Le Bain, has the same address as his album title: 444 West 13th Street in New York City.

It's safe to say that Twitter went into meltdown about the news, with plenty of users struggling to get their minds around the big revelation.

Despite the album going on to be one of Jay's best, it might not have happened if it wasn't for the cheating. The rapper admits that he and Bey were going to release a joint album until she decided that she wanted to address the infidelity on her own terms:

"We were using our art almost like a therapy session. And we started making music together. And then the music she was making at that time was further along. So her album came out as opposed to the joint album that we were working on...we were sitting in the eye of that hurricane, but the best place is right in the middle of the pain...and we had a lot of conversations. [I was] really proud of the music she made, and she was really proud of the art I released."

Hopefully, we'll see the joint album sometime in the future. For now, though, we'll just have to marvel at the revelations surrounding the name of 4:44. No doubt that Le Bain is going to have plenty of people turning up to take photos on their doorstep.
