Time erases all things. As hard as it is to believe, celebrities that are household names today may be totally forgotten in a couple generations. It happens slowly. First the C-list stars are forgotten, then the B-list stars are forgotten, then many of the A-list stars are forgotten. Sure, we remember a handful of movie icons, like John Wayne, Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. But when's the last time you watched one of their movies? We mention them, and we praise them, but we're not necessarily familiar with them.

That is, until the right biopic comes along. Movie icon Judy Garland will be brought to life in the upcoming film, Judy. The singer and actress got her start in vaudeville, and at age seventeen booked her most role, as Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz. (Which I am sure you have seen, possibly while high and listening to Pink Floyd.) Judy went to star in many more movies, and scored Oscar nominations for her performances in A Star Is Born and Judgment at Nuremberg. But despite her success, she struggled with her personal life, battling an addiction to drugs and alcohol. She died of a barbiturate overdose at age 47, in 1969.

Renée Zellweger will play Judy Garland in the biopic, and in a promotional photo, the resemblance is uncanny. The Bridget Jones Diary actress looks unrecognizable totally transformed into the old school MGM star. (And she's wearing a pretty awesome floral dress.) The movie will focus on end of Judy's life, as she performed a five week run of sold-out concerts in London. (And yes, you will probably hear "Somewhere Over The Rainbow.") The film also stars Michael Gambon, who you probably know as Albus Dumbledore in five of the eight Harry Potter films. He's starred in many movies over the past six decades, but he'll always be Dumbledore to me. (Sorry, Michael.)

A Twitter user posted a side-by-side comparison of the real Judy Garland and Renée's Judy Garland. It looks like perfect casting.

The movie is directed by Rupert Goold, who's acclaimed for his work in English theater as well as the television movie King Charles III. And it is written by Tom Edge, who previously wrote for the TV shows Lovesick and The Crown. And the production assistants are Barnaby Jay and Ffion Taylor. I know that's a random thing to bring up. I just feel like production assistants should get a shout-out. Their work is under-appreciated. You're doing a great job, guys.

Judy is scheduled to be released at the end of the year. It's sad the legendary performer died so young, but it's great her story will be told to a new generation. Maybe time doesn't erase all things. As long we keep telling stories, some people will live forever.
