Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather 'in talks' for an MMA rematch worth a staggering amount of money
Ladies and gentleman, are you ready for round two!? No? Well, neither am I. But, by the looks of it, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather are set to enter the ring again and battle it out to find out who is the biggest douche. Last August saw 'The Fight of The Century' take place in Las Vegas, with Conor McGregor walking the never-before-walked path from UFC into the world of professional boxing in order to fight the man who many regard as the best pound-for-pound fighter in history.
Whatever your opinion on Mayweather and the way that he boxes, there is no denying his record - which after he defeated McGregor, stood at 50-0. However, Floyd doesn't call himself 'Money' for nothing, and it appears that the sweet smell of cash has lured him into coming out of retirement and trying his hand and MMA.
The fight last August was quite possibly one of the most boring things ever witnessed. Among all the bravado and sh*t-slinging that went on beforehand, the fight itself was a damp squib. McGregor came out fast, clearly going for a KO and Mayweather danced around, slowly picking off the inexperienced McGregor until the ref put an end to it in the tenth round.
However, while no one thought that Mayweather would be brave, enough to enter the Octagon with McGregor, according to talkSPORT presenter Jim White, a potential rematch may be in on the cards.
'My soundings are that there are a lot of talks going on in the background, there are a lot of talks around people with Mayweather,' White said. '
"There are a lot of talks about him potentially having an MMA fight with McGregor. McGregor had no chance in a boxing match with Mayweather.
"People will tune in to see Mayweather get stopped by Conor McGregor and it won't affect his boxing record.
"I think it's going to happen and I think it will be a three, four, five hundred million dollar fight again."
Mayweather has repeatedly hinted at a possible debut in UFC and even posted a video of himself stepping into an octagon last month. On top of his own hints, UFC president Dana White has also confirmed that they have held talks with Mayweather, saying: "We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal. It’s real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real?" he said.
"Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real? He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media and then that sh*t ends up happening. We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f*cking happened. Anything is possible!"
The boxer had previously said that he would be interested in a rematch, with him saying on YouTube:
"They just called me not too long ago and asked me to come back. I can come right back. If I wanted to, I can come right back to the UFC.
"I can go fight in the Octagon. I can do a three – or four-fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars. Remember, I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather."
So it may actually be happening. While the boxing match turned out to be a non-event, the UFC fight would undoubtedly be much more dramatic.
