Conor McGregor posts 'death threat' to Floyd Mayweather

There is a long list of things that we all want to leave in 2017 and the never-ending feud between Connor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is definitely one of them. The two fighters, who fought in the highest-grossing fight of all time in August last year, continue to trade verbal blows long after the fight, which Mayweather won with relative ease.

The fight, which took place in Las Vegas, saw McGregor to the leap from UFC into the world of professional boxing. While he battled valiantly and took the undefeated Mayweather through 10 rounds, the referee decided to call the fight and McGregor had to accept defeat on his boxing debut. However, given that both fighters pocketed millions of dollars from the fight, McGregor seemed to be pretty happy with the outcome, despite the loss.

While Mayweather seems to have gone fairly quiet since the fight, with the boxer having bought a couple of mansions and some questionable art, Mcgregor has grabbed the headlines. Since pocketing the money, McGregor has been allegedly involved in a huge bar fight in a Dublin pub involving an Irish cartel and has also had allegations about his private life hit the press, amid rumours of an affair with Rita Ora.

However, while McGregor has been making the press for reasons outside the fight game, it seems that he hasn't lost his ability to smack talk. Taking to his Twitter account, the UFC star posted a Tweet which seemed to call out Mayweather, it read:

"Shin bone to the cheek bone. The rule set kept you out the funeral home."

The picture sees McGregor shaping up a kick to Floyd Mayweather's face. Of course, it is completely (and badly) photoshopped, but it could be foreboding a potential rematch between the two. It has been widely reported that Mayweather is apparently in talks with the UFC about a potential fight inside the Octagon.

Dana White, the president of the UFC, has described the prospect of Mayweather entering the Octagon as a "realistic possibility."

"We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal. It’s real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real?

"Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real? He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media and then that sh*t ends up happening.

"We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor f*cking happened.

"Anything is possible!"

It's not just White adding fuel to the fire, in December, Mayweather hinted a possible return to the fight game, saying:

"They just called me not too long ago and asked me to come back.

"I can come right back. If I wanted to, I can come right back to the UFC.

"I can go fight in the Octagon. I can do a three – or four-fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars.

"Remember, I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather."

Could we see a potential rematch in the Octagon? Surely Mayweather isn't that stupid? Although, given the fact that he isn't the brightest Crayon in the box, I wouldn't put it past him.
