One of the coolest thing for a baseball fan to experience is catching one of the game balls. It doesn't work quite as well in, say, soccer, as that's a large thing to lug around - and everyone will be expecting you to lob it back down to the pitch for it to be used in the rest of the game.
With baseball, however, it's the perfect way to remember the game, a little memento to put on your mantelpiece or shelf to show off to any houseguests interested. While this may mean a lot to any fan of the sport, it means even more to any child attending the game. So, you would think that if you were to see a foul ball come your way, you'd let a child nearby have it.
However, from this footage, it seems like this wasn't what happened.
During a recent game, Chicago first base coach Will Venable threw a foul ball over to a young boy in the crowd. The boy failed to catch it, with the ball falling behind his seat. And that's when the man behind him picked up the ball, and handed it to his wife. You can see the interaction in the video below:
Rest assured, things turned out well for the boy in question. The team later gave him two baseballs - one of them signed by all-star second baseman Javier Báez. And on top of that, it seems that there may be more to the scene than meets the eye...
After the clip went viral, with plenty of fans condemning the man for taking the ball away, it was revealed that his intentions were far more benevolent. According to fans sat nearby, the man had actually helped the child get a ball before, and after his wife took a photo of this particular ball, he handed it back over.
So, if this video made you lose faith in humanity - it's not quite as bad as you thought it was.
