Urban Decay is discontinuing its most-beloved product and Twitter can't cope
Nightmares can be highly personal. Some find the veritable orange thumb, Donald Trump, a menace to democracy writ large, while others view him as America's messiah; some live in terror of Hollywood reboots, while others waited patiently for Blade Runner 2049 - and so on and so forth...
In this vein, almost anything can be viewed in a binary - that is, disregarding the most beloved eyeshadow palette ever, and all of its various iterations. I am, of course, talking about Urban Decay's Naked Palette.
Yes, the day has come when the makeup item which launched a thousand dupes, and inspired a legion of beauty enthusiasts to navigate the choppy waters of YouTube is being discontinued.
*Cue collective screaming*
Urban Decay took to their Instagram account today, and posted an emotional tribute to the OG eyeshadow palette.
"Today, the beauty world mourns, the product that revolutionized neutral eyeshadows. A little bit naughty, often dramatic, and always in the press, the innovative game-changer and category creator will be laid to rest after eight years, without a smudge of regret. Passionate Naked collectors — and pretty much anyone with eyes — will remember Naked as the beauty product that changed their lids forever."
Though this parting is bittersweet, you’ll still be able to get your hands on the palette anywhere Urban Decay is sold, while supplies last."
There is a flipside, however. Beginning on the 23rd August, the original Naked palette will be 50 per cent off across all retailers. Once the product inventory is gone, there will not be a restock.
Naturally, the people of the internet were heartbroken by the news. "Um hello
@UrbanDecay is retiring the original naked palette forever.... HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THE SAME EYESHADOW I'VE BEEN DOING FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS. this is truly a crisis," one Twitter user bemoaned, while another corroborated " @UrbanDecay is discontinuing the original naked palette & it's on sale for $27. It's the best palette I've ever owned. I got mine back in 2013, use it several times a week, and it's still going strong (I hit pan on a couple of my fav shades & bought full sizes). Buy it!"
A third wrote, "My favorite Naked palette, ORIGINAL, is being discontinued because I am not meant to be happy or have nice things. That's TWO palettes I use almost daily that have been discontinued by Urban Decay."
People were definitely not happy...
RIP Naked Palette - forever in our hearts.
