This guy won 'The Biggest Loser' 10 years ago and has made an amazing transformation
Reality television often leaves audiences divided. You have those who love it, and you have those who hate it. Whatever your opinion on reality TV, I would bet my life savings (which isn't much, to be honest), that you have spent an absolutely horrific amount of your life watching reality TV.
Whether it's cosmetic surgeries gone wrong, Big Brother, or watching a load of celebrities going through some sort of strange ordeal, you will have been gripped at some point. However, one guilty pleasure we all have is weight loss programmes.
Back in 2006, Australia began its own edition of 'The Biggest Loser' - a TV series which pitted a load of overweight people against each other in order to see who could lose the biggest percentage of weight. The winner got a cash price, and one of the most infamous contestants to win the show was Sam Rouen.
Weighing 154kg when he initially began the show, Sam lost an astonishing 71kg throughout the series, and it's safe to say that he has kept up these habits in the 10 years since appearing on the show.
Taking to his Facebook page yesterday, the 29-year-old reflected on the 10-year milestone, sharing an incredible before-and-after post.
Rouen, now a fireman, wrote:
"Wasn’t sure if I was going to do this post?
"However, 10 years hey. What a time. So much has happened, good, bad, everything between.
"Highest highs and lowest lows. All I know is I’ve got some amazing people in my corner and I’m unconditionally appreciative of that."
In the post, Sam shared a photo of himself when he first appeared on the show at 19 years old. Alongside the photo, the fireman showcased a more recent picture of his ripped and muscular body. Looking at the photos, it's pretty hard to believe that it is the same person.
After transforming his appearance, Sam has embraced his new chiselled physique, with the former TV contestant appearing on stripped off on the New South Wales Firefighters Calendar. He has also found love, in the shape of Daniella Schot, who is a flight attendant.
Despite the incredible transformation, Sam still gets nervous about taking his shirt off in public.
"I still don’t like taking my shirt off — even at the beach. I’m still extremely self-conscious… I just tried to keep in mind that it was for a good cause."
He also said that he still gets flak from people over his appearance, but that it's workplace banter, rather than bullying.
"I was pretty lucky in high school and had a good group of friends who were really supportive, so it was never too bad then.
"It’s worse now. I’ve been getting a bit of a ribbing from the guys at the station, they’ve been calling me ‘calendar boy’ and stuff like that, but it’s all in good fun."
"I’m addicted to working out now, I definitely love running and working out with my brother.
"I play a bit of sport to stay in shape and also work out in the gym.
"I managed to knock five kilograms off. Can’t say it was fun — particularly when the guys were eating pizza and I was having steamed cauliflower."
Fair play to sam for turning his life around, it's a pretty incredible transition. Working as a fireman, being shredded and engaged to the love of his life - it's safe to say that he's no longer the Biggest Loser.
