It would be fair to say that people show their true colors when it comes to the car park at your local grocery store. Not only are people competitive in terms of grabbing a space, they're also aggressive, volatile and sometimes violent. One cause of this hostility is usually down to the disabled spaces that are located at the front of the store. Due to their close proxemics to the store entrance, a certain type of person is often left feeling frustrated that they can't park there and ends up unfairly scrutinizing those that do.

This is exactly what happened to Alan Tanner and his family, who used a disabled parking spot when out at their local precinct. The father has shared a post online, in which he urges people "not to judge" those that use the spaces after someone left a note on his wife's car when she parked in a disabled bay.

When the family returned to their car, they found a note which warned that they would "be reported" for using the space. The note read:

"You will be reported for illegal use of a Blue Badge Space.

"I witnessed you and your young able bodied daughter park the car at 13:10 on 19 Feb 2018 and walk towards to precinct with no sign of disability.

"This selfish action deprives a disabled person of somewhere to park."

Unsurprisingly, the coward behind the note didn't leave their name or number, which is more than likely because they didn't want to face the repercussions of leaving such an unthoughtful and unnecessary letter. However, despite the anonymity of the person behind the message, Alan took to Facebook to share an image of the note, saying that he hopes that person who wrote it is able to see it.

"Just thought I would post this. This was a letter left on my wife’s car today when in Woodley precinct with Paige, she was parked in a disabled parking space. Paige has got a valid Disabled badge.

"So to the person that wrote this letter, do not judge unless you know the full details of someone’s disability. Paige is not a young girl as you stated but a 23-year-old adult who is severely mentally disabled and requires 1:1 support at all times. I hope the person who wrote this gets to see this."

Understandably, the post has caused a conversation on Facebook with many praising the father for sharing the image as well as being outraged by the nature of the letter.

"Disability comes in many different forms so many that are invisible to others … such a shame that people feel that it is ok to comment when they know very little," one user said.

"Disgusting…disabilities come in all shapes and sizes…its outrageous that people judge when they don’t know the facts. Lately too many Ambulances are also getting messages left ok their window when they are parked outside people’s homes whilst attending to an emergency in someone’s house," said another.

As many people have said, some disabilities are often not visible to the average person, so a bit of respect and patience wouldn't have gone amiss. In all honesty, while some people do use disabled spaces illegally, the majority of people use them because they require them. As the age-old saying goes "if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all." Also, if you're going to write an angry letter, at least use the lines provided on the paper.
