He might be an orange cartoon cat, but Garfield is like all of us in that he loves lasagna, and he hates Mondays. You'd think we'd get used to them after a while, but no; every Sunday evening without fail, I feel a deep sense of dread as I realise that I've got to go to work the next morning.

It's the worst, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who trudges into work and passionately hopes for something - anything - to make this Monday just a little more bearable than the ones before it. Well, if that's the case, today is your lucky day; McDonald's has swooped in to make this Monday one to remember.

So if you're thinking ahead to your next meal and want something delicious without having to pay a dime, then why not head under the Golden Arches? Because for all of today, you can pick up a free cheeseburger from McDonald's, and I mean completely free.

Nope, not as part of a separate meal or once you spend a certain amount or anything like that. I'm saying:  you walk in to a McDonald's, walk up to the counter, pick up a cheeseburger, walk out, eat that cheeseburger, go about your day. It's really that simple.

So, how do you get your hands on such a coveted prize? That's easy, food lover: all you have to do is download a free app. Specifically, the McDonald's app: the fast food giants are testing out this new (and completely free) app wherein advanced location services can tell you when you're within 100m of a McDonald's, send your order right to the kitchen, and have it nice and fresh for when you step in.

It's a pretty cool feature, and what better way to test it out than to get yourself a free cheeseburger? I'll answer that for you: there isn't a better way to get your hands on one. Just a couple of things to keep in mind, though: you can only pick up this free burger via the McDonald's app, and there's only one per person. Yes, only one.

You're going to have to create an account, if you don't already have one, using your e-mail address to sign yourself up. Once you've done that, all you have to do is head to the 'My Deals' section of the app, where you can add the cheeseburger and start thinking about biting into its deliciousness.

Understandably, people are pretty delighted with a free cheeseburger - who wouldn't be? - and they're referencing something called Blue Monday, which is said to be the most depressing day of the year. Something to do with failed New Year's Resolutions, the end of Christmas, yadda yadda.

But while of those things might be true, this year, I'm not feeling the blues at all. It's all because of the delicious free cheeseburger I'll be enjoying for lunch. I'm going to try to jump from branch to branch to try and get the deal again, but I suspect McDonald's may have thought of that already.
