While we're told that the best kisses are meant to make us feel "weak at the knees", there are so many things that can go wrong when locking lips. Whether there's too much tongue, or too little tongue - the slightest of variables can leave you wanting far less than you should. Nearly everyone, however, has experienced one perfect kiss - the type which leaves you light-headed with desire and riding a high for days to come. These 10 people took to Reddit to share stories of their Hollywood-worthy moments, and boy are they deserving of a rom-com...

1. Wow

"What made it the best, was it was kissing the girl I had pined over for years. What made it great was how it happened, and the tension in the air between us. We were in my car talking, after having a few drinks in the bar. I [grabbed] a stick of gum and [asked] if she wanted half. She said yes. I put the gum in my mouth, with half of it sticking out, and told her to get it. She went for the gum, and next thing I know, we're full on making out for a long while. Probably one of the sexiest things I've ever experienced."

2. This is a great first kiss

"It was my first kiss. We were in a club, 18 years old, and I didn't really expect it to happen. Then we were dancing, her hands around my head, she kissed my right cheek, then my left, and finally she planted one right in the middle and didn't stop. I couldn't even tell you how long we kissed that night, only that I'll remember her and the look in her eyes forever."

3. A wonderful memory

"In high school I started dating this really cute, quiet guy. He was so shy, he had never had a relationship of any sort romantically with anyone prior to me. One night we were home alone at my parents place and went for it and kissed him, mainly because I knew he [couldn't] pick up the courage to do it. Once I broke that threshold he couldn't stop kissing me, it was amazing. We then went outside and it was a warm spring evening. My parents' yard is full of crab apple trees, so they were in full bloom and the petals we falling in the warm breeze. He [walked] up to me, put his hands on either side of my neck and kiss me, so softly and so tenderly. Nothing could have made that night better. He passed away that following [autumn], so this memory of us is something I will truly cherish forever."

4. Adorable

"We were very good, platonic, friends for years. I was in the army, at home on leave. She just happened to be my last stop before I left to go back to my duty station. We talked for a while, then it was time to go. She escorted me to the door, we hugged, and then kissed, we had never done that before. A couple months later, she visited me, but we were seemingly back to platonic status. Then she invited me to stay for the night in her hotel. Long story short, that was close to 30 years ago. We've been married 25. It wasn't a passionate kiss, it wasn't a long kiss, I describe it as the kiss you give your spouse when you leave for work; Ok, love ya, bye. Smooch. But it rocked us both to the core, and it sent us on a long journey, one we're still on."

5. How sensuous

"Her heart was racing and she was breathing very deliberately. As we kissed, I moved my hand to her neck, and she almost shuddered when she felt my hand on her skin. We made out for a while and it’s like we were in a haze. She was so excited and responsive and nervous, and [it was] like that feeling when you were a kid and you kissed someone for the first time. Nerves and excitement and chest heaving, and everything is vaguely hazy or fuzzy because it’s so hot you’re not thinking clearly anymore. Her reacting like that made me feel like a kid again, in the best way. Ever since then, when I remember her taste (her brand of cigarettes), I get that fuzzy-headed memory of how great a kisser she was."

6. A lovely coming-out story

"Growing up in a conservative area, I was always taught that gay people choose to be that way, and they all die of AIDS and burn in hell. This was really distressing when puberty came around and deep down I knew I was attracted to guys. I had a few girlfriends and hated doing anything with them (holding hands, kissing, etc) and never understood why anyone liked it. It felt gross and unnatural to me. It wasn't until I moved away from that area, became un-brainwashed, and accepted that I was gay that I went on my first date with a guy.

"The first time we kissed my entire world exploded. I finally understood why people enjoyed kissing and intimacy. It felt natural and pleasurable and I couldn't get enough of it. I also felt really angry afterwards of being robbed of those kinds of experiences in my youth, but there wasn't much I could do at that point except live in the moment. It's been many years since my first real kiss and I still think back to it in fondness."

7. This just sums it up

"It was my first kiss with my girlfriend on our second date. We were hiking some trails and stopped next to a small pond. It was like the world stopped and we melted together."

8. "It was the best"

"The best kiss I ever had was with this girl who I was madly in love with, on a pier by moonlight. I know that seems very cliché, but the events leading up to it were pretty emotional for the both of us. She had broken up with her boyfriend a few months prior to that, and we were hooking up for a while, but she wasn't ready to go into a relationship. Anyway, I was frustrated by this which lead to us arguing about it. Then one day as we were fighting, she told me that her grandfather passed away so all the fighting stopped and I literally ran to be by her side. I went to her house, and we just hung out and I consoled her as much as I could. Anyway she had to go to her family's for a few days. When she came back, she asked to meet me at a boardwalk near us, so I did. I saw her approaching from a distance, and I just remember thinking how gorgeous she looked. We talked for a bit and laughed about things. Then in one moment, I looked at her and the moonlight just hit her perfectly, so I moved in and kissed her. It was the best."

9. Unforgettable

"This [was with] my first girlfriend. It wasn't our first kiss by far, but she pushed me onto the couch, and sat on my lap facing toward me. Her forehead briefly rested on mine, whilst she gave me this very serious look, before she finally lent in and gently kissed me. It's really the only time I've felt desire or love behind a kiss and I don't think I'm ever going to forget it."

10. It's all about the buildup

"The best kiss I've had was with an ex-coworker. One night, we were working late, the only two in the building, a couple beers deep, and we kissed briefly. She panicked, fumbled her stuff together, and ran out. That wasn't the good one. The next night, she was working late again and called me in to help her with something. We had a couple beers each while working, but bearing in mind how she had run out of the room the night before, I didn't make a move - even though there was a bit of tension there all night. After a couple hours, we finished the project and walked into the parking lot. She was backing out of a space, and I was behind in my car waiting. Half backed out of the space, suddenly she put her car in park, threw open the door and beelined to my car. I stepped out to see what was up. And she just grabbed me and pushed me against the car as she kissed me more passionately than I think I'd ever experienced. We stayed in that parking lot making out for like an hour."

Well, there you have it. While not every kiss is guaranteed to be mind-blowing - as these stories show - it makes those that are even more memorable.

In other news, scientists have confirmed that being in a relationship makes you gain weight...
