Ed Sheeran reportedly 'married childhood sweetheart in secret ceremony' before Christmas
Bad news ladies and gents: Ed Sheeran is officially off the market!
The singer reportedly married his childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn in a top-secret ceremony before Christmas. Their wedding day was said to be incredibly low-key, with the private nuptials held at a church close to Cherry's parents' home in Suffolk and a reception at the local village pub.
Only 40 close friends and family were apparently invited, with none of Ed's celebrity mates present at the December ceremony, held at St Andrew's Church in Wingfield.
A source told The Mirror: "Ed had managed to schedule a break in his world tour for December so that's when they tied the knot. It was held at the church in Wingfield and the reception was at the local pub. There were only very closest friends and family there - even some of his longtime mates weren't invited."
Another source close to the singer also allegedly told The Sun that the couple wanted the day to be "no-fuss", stating: "It was very quiet – just Ed’s oldest school pals, limited family and the priest. There were only 40 people – so no Taylor Swift, record company executives or any royals or pop star pals. He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them – just a tiny winter wedding."
The couple had previously been hoping to marry on the star's estate in Framlingham, but this plan fell through last year when they were denied planning permission to build a wedding chapel on the site.
The Shape of You musician took to social media in January 2018 to announce to his 18 million followers that he had proposed to his longtime love.
Uploading an adorable picture of the two of them snuggling, he captioned the snap: "Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx".
The Castle On The Hill singer sent fans crazy in August when he showed off his engagement ring and admitted he loved to throw the press off the scent. During a TV appearance, when he was asked how he'd managed to "sneak that one", he replied: "I never really do anything too public anyway".
It's rumoured that the loved-up husband and wife are planning on throwing a big party to celebrate their union at a later date. An insider told The Mirror: "Ed and Cherry are planning a festival-style party for a wider list to happen at the end of the summer. That will be all singing and dancing, and they’ll be able to invite Taylor and those who work with the record company and royal friends."
The Perfect star has known Cherry since they were 11 years old and attended school together in Framlingham, Suffolk. They drifted apart when Ed left to pursue his music career in the US, and Cherry went to play hockey for Duke University, where she earned a degree in Molecular Biology. However, the two reconnected when Ed invited his childhood friend to Taylor Swift’s infamous Rhode Island Fourth of July bash in 2015.
"Well, our anniversary is her 4th of July party," Sheeran told PEOPLE last year. "I’ve known Cherry since I was 11. She worked on Wall Street in New York, and I had like six shows [around New York in 2015]. It was around then, and we reconnected. I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s 4th of July party. I was texting [Seaborn], and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history."
Congratulations to the happy couple!
