A flight attendant has spoken out after footage of a child's light-up headwear went viral on social media.

TikTok user @malecastellonn recently went viral on the video-sharing platform after they shared a video showing passengers attempting to enjoy a peaceful night flight.

However, as the camera pans around, we can see that any hope of the passengers getting some shut-eye are dashed by a young boy wearing a light-up flashing hat. (I won't lie, the entire scene looks like something out of a sitcom and had me in hysterics).

Nevertheless, after the video amassed more than 8 million views, many TikTok users took to the comments section to sympathize with those on the flight - and share their very honest opinions on the kid's glowing headwear.

"Imagine trying to sleep and all of a sudden the plane turns into a rave," one person commented, with a second adding: "I would lose my mind."

A third person replied: "This is so disrespectful of the parents to put this on their child."

Others were concerned about the possibility of the hat causing migraines or even seizures for the other passengers. Check out the video below:

Eventually, a flight attendant weighed in on the controversial video, saying (via Indy100): "As a flight attendant, I’d say put that away. There are people trying to rest, read, watch a movie etc. Also, there are people with disabilities, and this can be incredibly annoying and irritating for them.

"Leave stuff like this for home or amusement parks. Not in a tiny tin can at 30,000ft in the air. Some folks have sensitive eyes please consider others around you."

The Daily Mail recently spoke to several travel experts about the etiquette passengers should follow when flying.

According to travel blogger Lee Abbamonte, passengers should avoid sprawling out on spare seats until the plane takes off and has spent a significant amount of time in the air that they're confident that those seats aren't being used. And even then, passengers should ask the flight attendants for permission before claiming an empty seat.

Additionally, passengers should always keep their feet off the seats.

Passengers should also be aware of others attempting to sleep, and lower the screen brightness of devices like laptops and cell phones. Abbie Unger, a former flight attendant and founder of the Flight Attendant Career Connection, also suggests purchasing some padded headphones rather than earbuds, as these emit less noise.

Unger also urged all passengers to dress appropriately - saying that people should wear their "outside clothes, not inside clothes". This means NO PAJAMAS! Slippers are permitted, but passengers should never go barefoot... don't subject other people to any foot odor.

Unsurprisingly, there were no specific instructions about whether a flashing hat is okay... but I'm guessing we are all agreed that this kid's choice of headwear was definitely a big no-no for flying.
