One of the hottest topics on social media in recent months has revolved around switching seats on airplanes so couples or families can sit together, especially when there are young children involved.
And a woman has been applauded for refusing to switch her first-class seat on a plane with a child.
Dr. Sabra - who goes by the handle @lifewithdrsabra on TikTok - revealed that she was recently asked to move from her 1A plane seat during a flight to accommodate another passenger's wish.
In the video, she wrote in the overlay text: "POV: Flight agent asks me if I want to give up my 1A seat so a child sits with their family," and from the gleeful expression on Dr. Sabra's face you can immediately tell that she did not agree to the proposal and was extremely happy to have turned down the request.
The doctor also used a popular TikTok audio of a person saying: "Girl, f*** them kids and f*** you too," which is often utilized by creators to accompany clips in which they choose not to make sacrifices for other people’s children.
Watch Sabra's TikTok below:The 1A seat is the first seat in the first row of a plane and ordinarily resides in the first class section. The seat is thought to be the most popular and sought-after among travelers who fly first class.
The TikToker shared more information about the incident in the caption, explaining that she chose not to give up her position and that the family ended up "finding a solution" to being seated separately.
The doctor cleared up the situation, explaining that the child was in fact a teenager rather than an infant, adding: "That’s a no from me dawg, would you have given up your seat? Also, they ended up finding a solution so no, I am not a terrible human being. Also, the child was like 13."
In the comments section of the clip - which has so far garnered almost 5 million views - many viewers agreed that Dr. Sabra was not in the wrong nor was she unreasonable for keeping her original seat, and pointed out that the situation would not have developed had the parents planned better.
One person said: "Why isn’t their first instinct to just switch the child with one of her parents so they could be with a guardian… lmao."
Someone else shared: "Unless they upgrade me to first class im not moving I paid for that seat you should have planned your trip better."
A third person remarked: "People need to PLAN AHEAD. stop making your lack of planning everyone else’s problem."
A fourth user questioned: "I wonder if some families actually on purpose buy the cheapest tickets, to plan to ask someone for their seat 'I got kids, pls move.'"
Sabra later revealed that it was not the family’s fault they weren’t sat together, but the airline, stating: "To clarify, the gate agent asked me, I asked to see the seat map, I didn’t like the alternative. They were kind and found a solution right away.
"The family never addressed me. I think it was even the airline’s rule, not them asking to sit together," she added.
Often, airlines allow passengers to reserve specific seats on airplanes, however, these seat reservations, even after spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on tickets, will usually cost an additional fee, which can quickly become very costly depending on how many seats are needed and in which area of the plane they are.
This can sometimes be the reason why families do not end up being sat together as they have opted to save money in the belief they will be sat together or at least near each other on their flight.
