You can now stay in a 'wine hotel' where you sleep in a barrel and drink all the wine you want
Do you love wine so much, you want to physically put yourself in the barrel?
Well, dream no more - your fantasy has become a reality! A vineyard in Portugal has fulfilled all of our hopes and more by installing wine barrel hotel suites that are available to rent out.
In a move that will make all wine lovers rejoice, Quinta da Pacheca in Douro has built the oversized barrels just metres from the 280-year-old wine estate. This, of course, means that people can travel down to explore the 140-acre vineyard, testing out some of the wine menu, before returning to their wine barrel to sit on their terrace with a delicious bottle (or three).
Each 30 square metre suite includes a circular double bed, private wardrobe and bathroom with walk-in-shower, skylight windows and a private terrace. The rooms are also fully air-conditioned and fitted with Wi-Fi - so there's no worries on the boasting-to-your-friends-on-Instagram front!
You know who's a big wine lover? Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner! Watch her hilariously chug down her drink on camera here:
The pine-wood barrels were designed by property owners Paulo Pereira and Maria do Céu Gonçalves and are exact replicas of the ones used at the estate. The area also boasts its own on-site restaurant where guests can enjoy the local wine - this including red, white, rose and port - as well as other locally sourced products like jam and olive oil.
Speaking to the Metro, a vineyard representative named the barrels "an idyllic romantic setting" for wine lovers.
"Quinta da Pacheca created the wine barrels as a bold architectural project of suites to reinforce the originality of the wine tourism offered at the site," they stated. "In an idyllic romantic setting, these wine barrel rooms will provide visitors a unique experience to the nature and significance of the Douro wine region."
Drinkers keen to stay can book a night in the barrels from €190 (£160) or €205 (£182), with breakfast included. Guests who don't fancy the barrels can also stay at The Wine House Hotel with normal bedrooms available - but literally who would want this when you can stay in a wine barrel?
Bottoms up, wine lovers!
