'Grease' star Susan Buckner has died aged 72

Susan Buckner - the actress perhaps best known for her role in the hit movie musical Grease - has sadly passed away at the age of 72.

As reported by PEOPLE, the news was shared by Melissa Berthier - a publicist for Buckner's family - who revealed in a statement: "Susan died peacefully on May 2 surrounded by loved ones."

In a further comment to PEOPLE, Buckner's daughter, Samantha Mansfield, described her late mom as "magic", adding that "the light she brought into every room will be missed forever".

"She was magic, and I was very lucky to call her my best friend," Samantha added.

Buckner passed away in Miami. No cause of death has been revealed at this time.

Buckner was born in 1953, and will fondly be remembered for her role as Patty Simcox in the beloved musical film Grease (1978).

Buckner's portrayal of the perky Rydell High cheerleader earned her widespread acclaim from fans and solidified her status as an iconic figure in cinematic history. In the movie, she quickly befriends new arrival Sandy Olsson - much to the displeasure of Pink Ladies, who are all put off by Patty's somewhat snobbish demeanor.

Prior to her role in Grease, Buckner showcased her acting talents in various television shows and films, including appearances in The Brady Bunch Hour and The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.

Following her success in the hit high school music, Buckner continued to make her mark in the entertainment industry. She graced television screens with her presence in popular series like The Love Boat and When the Whistle Blows.

Her final credited role was in the 1981 movie Deadly Blessing, although, she also had an uncredited role in the 1989 comedy Police Acadamy 6.
