The Met Gala went ahead without Rihanna last night, with many fans questioning where the singer was.
Rihanna, 36, and her partner A$AP Rocky, 35, have been known for their memorable and stylish entrances at the Met Gala in previous years.
Often fashionably late, the couple has made a tradition out of arriving after the initial call time, captivating the attention of onlookers with their unique fashion choices.
Throughout her Met Gala history, Rihanna has delivered iconic looks that have cemented her status as a fashion icon.
Such as her stunning appearance as co-chair of Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination in 2018, wearing a majestic bishop's headdress and a bejeweled minidress, to her unforgettable canary yellow Guo Pei dress in 2015.
Prior to this year's event, Rihanna hinted at her intended style for the evening, describing it as "real simple" during an interview with Extra.
"I'm actually keeping it real simple this year. ... It's gonna come to what my makeup and what my hair is going to do." She added: "Very simple-ish ... compared to everything I have done."
However, fans never got to see it because the star didn't show up.
They flocked to social media in their hundreds to question where the star was, with everyone asking: "Where's Rihanna?"
According to a source speaking to PEOPLE, Rihanna had to cancel her attendance due to being ill with the flu.
Despite her absence from the Met Gala, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were spotted spending the weekend in Miami, where the Fenty Beauty founder debuted a new bubblegum pink hairstyle.
Supporting her partner's X Puma pop-up shop, Rihanna showcased her impeccable style in a black satin dress with a matching corset, accessorized with a large diamond “A” necklace and pink tennis shoes to complement her hair color.
Taylor Swift and Beyoncé were also absent from Monday's event, though neither have attended since 2016.
Another notable absentee was Blake Lively, who is known for stunning at the Gala every year.
The Met Gala takes place on the first Monday of May every year.
This prestigious occasion serves as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, recognized as The Anna Wintour Costume Centre.
Named in honor of Vogue's editor-in-chief, who has overseen the gala since 1995.
