This job will pay you $10,000 a month to live in Cancún
If you're looking for a new job, I've got some great leads. Wal-Mart is hiring greeters. McDonald's is hiring fry cooks. Bagley Elementary School is hiring janitors. Murray Energy Corporation is hiring coal miners. Pitman Funeral Home is hiring embalmers. Oh, and Cancún.com is hiring somebody to live in Cancún for $10,000 a month - but you're probably not interested in that.
I know - it sounds too good to be true. You probably think this it's a scam, or if you click the link to the application you'll get a virus. But this is actually a legitimate job offer. That is, if you're interested in moving to Cancún, Mexico. Do you really want to live in that hellhole?
Cancún's one of the most popular vacation spots in the world, but apparently, they're in desperate need of more tourism. Their website's looking for a travel enthusiast to be CEO - Cancún Experience Officer. And there's no experience necessary. You just have to be at least 18 years old, with a valid passport, and be willing to move to Cancún for six months. They'll cover all your expenses, give you photo and video equipment, and pay you a salary of $10,000 per month. That's right - you'll make $60,000 while living in paradise. My dream job is still "coal miner," but this gig sounds okay too.
Before you get too excited, this isn't a total vacation. You'll be expected to document your experience - generating videos, writing blogs, and posting on social media, to engage an online audience. I know - grueling work. But hey, if you're not one of those weirdo Internet celebrities, don't worry. You don't have to have a massive online following. Chad Meyerson, the general manager of Cancun.com explains:
“It doesn’t have to be somebody who has a million followers on Instagram. It can be somebody who is just very passionate about the destination and wants to go out there and document what it has to offer."
Basically, you'll be a brand ambassador, telling the world all about Cancún's pristine beaches, hip nightclubs and natural wonders. You'll even go on unique adventures, like scaling a 3,000 year old pyramid, teeing off at an ocean fairway and swimming with a 40,000 pound whale shark. And since the job goes from March through August, that means you'll be there for Spring Break!
Meyerson says they'll pick the top 100 candidates in December, narrow it down to 50 in January, and then fly out five finalists for the final selection process. That will include formal interviews, physical assessments and - hopefully - rubbing lotion on supermodels. (Hey, might as well, right?)
“I think that this form of finding a candidate to fill this role should be a lot of fun. We really want to open this up to everybody, we want people to have interesting takes and personalities to come and see if they can add value here.”
You can fill out an application at ceo.cancun.com.
And if you don't get hired, there's still plenty of positions available at the coal mine.
