A man who had been suffering from extreme headaches for five months finally learned the bizarre reason why after a trip to the doctor.

Don't get me wrong, as kids, the vast majority of us will have shoved the odd crayon up our nose. But usually, our parents were on hand to stop us before we did any serious damage.

Fans of The Simpsons will hopefully remember the episode where Homer finds out he has crayons lodged in his brain from doing exactly that, and we all laughed it off as fiction.

Well it turns out, it's not as far-fetched as you might think.

A 35-year-old man in Vietnam experienced a bizarre ordeal when he discovered a pair of chopsticks lodged in his skull after suffering from severe headaches for five months.

The unnamed patient sought medical attention at the Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi on November 25, reporting persistent headaches, fluid discharge, and fluid loss, as per Metro.

Upon conducting CT scans, doctors uncovered that the man was grappling with tension pneumocephalus, a rare and potentially life-threatening neurological condition characterized by a dangerous increase in intracranial pressure, according to the New York Post.

In simpler terms, he was suffering from a serious brain condition.

The source of the man's unusual symptoms was later identified through a thorough examination - a pair of chopsticks that had penetrated up his nose and into his brain.

Describing the case as "very rare", Dr. Nguyen Van Man, the head of the Department of Neurosurgery, highlighted the extraordinary nature of this medical anomaly.

The man's family believes that the chopsticks must have been inserted into his nose during a fight approximately five months ago, reports Vietnam.VN.

Despite being injured in the altercation and seeking medical attention at the time, the chopsticks went unnoticed, and no abnormalities with his nose were reported.

When confronted by doctors about the discovery, the patient, still bemused, could not recall the details of the fight but vaguely remembered feeling something being stabbed into his face.

Now, he believes that the chopsticks were deliberately inserted into his nose by the other person involved in the altercation.

Following a consultation, medical professionals performed an endoscopic surgery through the nose to remove the lodged chopsticks. The patient is currently in stable condition and undergoing recovery treatment in the hospital.

Let's be honest, this is quite a bizarre thing to happen during a bar fight... so if you ever find yourself in a scuffle, make sure that nobody shoves anything up your nose.
