The chilling final text from a man who fell overboard from a cruise ship has been revealed.

Liam Jones, 23, disappeared after setting sail on the MSC Euribia on March 16 from Southampton, England to Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The passenger was traveling with family members for his mother’s birthday and was meant to enjoy a seven-day holiday in Germany, France, and Belgium, as reported by The Telegraph.

However, he was last seen onboard on March 16 by his sister.

According to the publication, the social work student messaged his wife Sophia McPhee on the day he was last seen alive, saying that he felt sick.

Shortly after, MSC confirmed a passenger had gone missing during the cruise and Hampshire Constabulary started its investigation once the vessel returned to the UK.

A spokesman from MSC Cruises told the Telegraph: "A passenger on board MSC Euribia went overboard on March 16 as the ship was sailing to Hamburg. This was reported to the authorities."

"The police in Southampton boarded the vessel today and investigated on behalf of the coroner. We are deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time," they continued. "Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will refrain from disclosing any additional information."

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman also spoke out about the investigation, noting: "Officers boarded the vessel on Friday, March, 22 following a report that a man had gone overboard," as cited by The Independent.

"The man’s family are aware and police are investigating this on behalf of the coroner," they added.

Jones' heartbroken wife has shared her devastation at her husband's sudden disappearance, telling Daily Record: "I feel so lost. He’s just… gone."

"I’m never going to see him again. I’m devastated. I have so many questions, and I’m not getting any answers to what’s happened," she added.

The 20-year-old from Dundee revealed that she last saw Liam on March 14 when he traveled from their home in Dundee to Glasgow to meet his family. The next day he boarded the cruise ship in Southampton.

"I was first contacted by his sister on Sunday. She said there had been an accident and Liam 'wasn’t coming back," Sophia said. "She then said she had seen CCTV and he’d gone overboard. I’ve not had any contact from anyone since."

Sophia took to her Facebook page to post a broken-heart emoji next to a picture of her and Jones on their wedding day. Her sister-in-law Paula Devlin commented under the sweet snap: "The purest soul and best friend a sister could ask for."

Our thoughts are with Jones' family and friends at this time.
