Prince William has unexpectedly pulled out of a memorial service, with Kensington Palace citing that it is a "personal matter".
As reported by BBC News, Prince William withdrew from attending the memorial service for the late former King Constantine of Greece, where he was slated to give a reading.
Queen Camilla took the lead among members of the Royal Family, honoring the service at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle. Unfortunately, the King himself, currently undergoing cancer treatment, was also unable to attend.
Details regarding the nature of the "personal matter" concerning Prince William remain undisclosed. However, royal sources have moved to reassure the public, emphasizing that there's no cause for alarm.
Kensington Palace provided an update on Prince William's wife, Catherine, confirming her steady recovery from abdominal surgery conducted the previous month.
Earlier today, the Prince of Wales conveyed his apologies to the Greek royal family, expressing his inability to join them at the memorial service.
This latest incident adds to a series of medical events within the royal family this year, including Catherine's surgery and the King's health issues. Despite public interest, the palace has urged caution against overinterpreting Prince William's sudden absence.
The memorial service was held in honor of former King Constantine, who passed away last year. In place of Prince William, the reading was delivered by Constantine's eldest son, Crown Prince Pavlos.
Earlier this month, King Charles spoke out for the first time since his cancer diagnosis where he expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support he has received since making his diagnosis public.
Accompanied by a photo showing him shaking hands with a medical worker, the King's message conveyed appreciation for the kindness and encouragement received during this challenging time.
"I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days," the monarch wrote. "As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement."
Acknowledging the impact of his openness about his diagnosis, King Charles highlighted how it has contributed to promoting public awareness and shedding light on the vital work of organizations supporting cancer patients and their families.
"It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organizations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world," he added. "My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience."
Amid his treatment, the King will temporarily withdraw from public-facing duties but will continue to fulfill state responsibilities behind the scenes.
