Demi Lovato's ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama said to be 'completely devastated' by her hospitalization
Last night, the world was left in shock after it was reported that Demi Lovato had been rushed to a Los Angeles hospital following an alleged drug overdose.
Authorities were apparently called to the American singer’s Hollywood home after she fell ill just before midday on Tuesday, with sources claiming that the star was still unconscious when paramedics arrived at her home in the Hollywood Hills. Soon after, she was roused and reportedly treated with Narcan, an emergency treatment for overdoses with narcotic substances.
Thankfully, the 25-year-old is now conscious and showing improvement already, with her spokesperson stating: "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support."
However, her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama is said to be "completely devastated" with the news of his former lover's overdose. According to US Weekly, an insider has claimed that the That '70s Show actor had no idea she was struggling so much and will do anything to help her recover.
"Wilmer is completely devastated and he still loves Demi and it was just a matter of scheduling and time that they needed to make a romantic relationship work," the source allegedly said. "She's been honest with him about her relapse, as she has with her family, friends, fans and the entire public, especially with her new song, but he didn't think it was this severe and that she would be struggling so much and have a situation that had these repercussions."
In addition, another source has apparently told PEOPLE that Wilmer was Demi's "rock" in hard times and he has been left heartbroken with the news of her overdose. "He knew she was going through a tough time but he wasn’t prepared for this," the insider claimed. "He saw her through so many ups and downs and was her rock through some of her darkest moments. To see her back in such a sad and vulnerable place is heart-breaking for him."
The pair split after six years together in 2016, however have remained close, with the Sorry Not Sorry star saying in October 2017 that she still loved him. In her YouTube documentary Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated, she said:
"We connected on a level that I’ve never connected with anybody before. He was just my rock, my everything... It [the break-up] had nothing to do with falling out of love. We decided together that we're probably just better as friends. I do have moments where it's late at night and I'm lonely and I wonder if I made the right decision because love is a gamble. I don't know if I'll lose him for the rest of my life."
She continued: "I think my heart is always with Wilmer. I think it was with Wilmer. I think that it is with Wilmer, and I think that it will be... You don't share six years of your life with somebody and not give them a piece of your heart, and visa versa. Like, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to meet anybody that compares to him, but I'm trying to keep an open heart and open mind when it comes to that."
We wish the singer all the best and hope she receives the help she needs in her addiction struggle. We're all thinking of you, Demi.
