When working in a service industry job position, people often hear the phrase "the customer is always right".

Of course, that's utter BS.

Those who use public services might usually think they're right, but - in reality - it's far more likely that the person who spends every day working there has a better idea of what's correct or not.

Despite this, employees in customer-facing jobs find themselves subject to regular abuse from individuals demanding refunds/threatening to tell the manager/refusing to pay because they don't think the staff have done a good enough job.

And this last thing is exactly what happened at a nail salon this weekend - but the staff didn't react all too well.

In a video posted to Facebook, Mercy Maduka explained that she was paying a visit to the New York salon when a huge fight broke out over a so-called botched eyebrow.

"So I’m at the nail salon and they f***ed up a lady eyebrow and she refused to pay then a fight broke out," she wrote. "[They are] hitting them like animals."

In the short clip captured by Maduka, one member of staff can be seen repeatedly hitting one of the customers with a broom handle while another patron is held back by two employees. It's difficult to tell who instigated the violence, but it appears to be the workers at the nail salon who are dealing the most force.

In response to why Maduka did not get involved in the altercation herself, she posted the following statement to Facebook, with some very clear political undertones:

Police were eventually called to the scene, at which point they reportedly arrested one patron and one of the salon workers. Huiyue Zheng, 32, was charged with assault and weapon possession, while Christina Thomas was booked on misdemeanour assault and other charges. Both have since been released.

In response to the violent altercation, a protest took place outside of the salon the following day.
