A man accused of suffocating and dismembering a Tinder date slashed his own throat in a Nebraska courtroom on Monday.
Aubrey Trail screamed "Bailey is innocent and I curse you all" before cutting his neck with what appeared to be a pen or a small blade, and collapsing.
The 52-year-old suspected killer was referring to his girlfriend Bailey Boswell, who is also charged with first-degree murder and scheduled to stand trial next year.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, after cutting himself, Trail fell onto the floor out of the wheelchair he was sitting in. He appeared to be unconscious and was carried on a stretcher and rushed to hospital. His condition is currently unknown.
CNN has since reported that Trail needed stitches, but has been released from hospital.
The couple allegedly plotted to abduct and kill 24-year-old Sydney Loofe, who disappeared after a November 15, 2017, date. Her body was found 19 days later, cut up in 14 separate pieces and wrapped in trash bags, scattered across Saline County in Nebraska.
Bailey and Trail both deny murdering Loofe, claiming she died during a consensual orgy that had gone awry. Trail's attorneys have stated he accidentally asphyxiated the young woman during a sex game, per the New York Post.
Saline County District Judge Vicky Johnson ordered the jury to return on Tuesday, stating Trail would be handcuffed for the remainder of the trial.
