The footage shows the brazen burglar rummaging around the two-month-old's nursery looking for valuables, before being startled by the sound of the child's father in another room.

Without realizing, the suspect looks directly into the camera, providing viewers with a perfect view of his face. The baby is said to have slept throughout the brief break-in.

After hearing the child's 32-year-old father, the panicked burglar then escapes through a window. According to the NYPD's official Twitter account, the man then broke into another apartment in the same building just a few minutes later, once again utilizing the fire escape.

Whilst in the second apartment, the man got away with jewelry, a bicycle, and a backpack belonging to a 28-year-old woman, the Daily Mail reports.

Nobody was hurt in either of the break-ins, which occurred in the area of Johnson Avenue and West 236th Street, NBC News has reported.

New York City police are now asking for anyone who may recognize the serial burglar or have any other information to contact NYPD Crimestoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
