Bizarre footage shows an escaped racehorse careering through a bar and wreaking havoc
There's a well-known joke about a horse entering a bar, but if it were actually to happen, odds are no one would be cracking a smile. In fact, it turns out, it causes complete pandemonium.
Security footage of an escaped racehorse after it stormed into a bar in Chantilly, north of Paris has made its way online.
The horse's trainer, Jean-Marie Beguigne, explained that the horse had ditched her rider at the Chantilly racecourse stables less than a mile away from the bar.
According to Beguigne, the horse had "a tendency" of trying to escape, but remarked that it was "exceptional" that it got that far away from the track before being re-captured.
"Between the track and the stables, her rider fell off," he told Ouest France newspaper, the Independent reports. "The filly escaped by going on to the road, and crossing a roundabout before entering this bar. It is all quite exceptional."
The bar the horse found its way into was a PMU bar, which stands for Pari Mutuel Urbain - aka France’s state-controlled betting system. These PMU bars have counters to place bets as well as screens showing the races. You can watch the destructive incident below:
“She pushed the door open, and raced straight for the betting corner," Jasmin said of the incident. “Then the filly turned around, breaking a table and chairs. We've never seen anything like it.”
Luckily, neither the horse nor any patrons of the bar were injured during the incident.
