Donald Trump's campaign team has reportedly revealed the true reason behind the red spots on his hand amid teasing from social media users... and Jimmy Kimmel.

Speculation has run wild over the cause of former President Trump's noticeable hand injuries as he made his way to the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial earlier this week.

And while many medical conditions can cause red patches on a person's hands, that didn't stop Trump falling victim to social media users poking fun at the situation. In fact, it wasn't long before the hashtag "#SyphilisDon" was trending on X - as red blotches can be a symptom of the sexually transmitted disease.

However, "sources tied to the Trump campaign" have finally set the record straight, confirming to TMZ that the injuries were, in fact, just paper cuts.

They revealed that the former Apprentice host had inadvertently smeared blood across his hand as a result of these cuts. And this certainly seems to be the case, as photos of Trump's hand taken later that day show no red marks on his fingers.

However, over on ABC, Jimmy Kimmel joked about the possibility of Trump's hand injuries being related to an infection, quipping: "Donald Trump has had to deal with a viral moment that was embarrassing — even for him."

Kimmel didn't miss the opportunity to reference a 1990s interview in which Trump claimed to have avoided sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) as his "personal Vietnam". Kimmel's humorous take on this statement was: "But if he has syphilis, that would mean the only Vietnam he avoided was Vietnam."

In jest, Kimmel also noted that Melania Trump "will be fine" even if syphilis were the case, suggesting their sleeping arrangements have long been separate, adding: "They haven't slept in the same bed since … How old is Barron? 17? Yeah, she'll be okay."

Jimmy Fallon also poked fun at the former POTUS, hosting a spoof CNN segment on The Tonight Show.

The voiceover humorously suggested that Trump's hand injuries might have resulted from grabbing a hotdog, touching a Bible, or even getting rug burns from Donald Trump Jr.'s leash.

In the end, the narrator playfully suggested that the real reason was "fingerpainting the face of his new lawyer, Wilson the volleyball," referencing Tom Hanks' character's companion in the movie Castaway and the frequent changes in Trump's legal team.

In the courtroom, Trump's lawyer, Alina Habba, faced her share of challenges. Judge Lewis Kaplan rejected her bid to delay the trial so that the former president could attend his mother-in-law's funeral and admonished her to "sit down", the Daily Mail reported.

The trial, which revolves around Trump's defamation of E. Jean Carroll, has taken a new turn. Since the first jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll in the 1990s and then defaming her in 2022, this trial focuses on other remarks Trump made during his presidency.

Despite his legal obligations, Trump continues to juggle court appearances with campaign stops as he currently leads the Republican field in this year's presidential race. He even sat in on jury selection for his trial earlier this week.
