The phrase 'ghosting' is a fairly well-known one on the dating scene these days, but for 27-year-old spiritual guidance counsellor Amethyst Realm it has a very different meaning. Amethyst, who hails from Bristol, England, has a supernatural sex life, and claims that she's been physically intimate with more than 20 different ghosts.

She even claims that the sex is better than it ever was with her ex - the fiancé she dumped over a decade ago when she was apparently visited in the night by the randy spirit of a 19th-century man. However, now Amethyst claims that she's decided to settle down, and that a ghost has actually proposed to her, when the two of them went on a romantic date to Wookey Hole caves in Somerset.

As if that wasn't mind-boggling enough, she's also stated that she wants to start a family with him - although she hasn't actually been clear about how a mortal woman could possibly conceive a baby with a mortal man. However, she believes that 'phantom pregnancies' are actually cases where ghost have impregnated the living.

"I believe a phantom pregnancy is a real pregnancy but you have a phantom inside of you rather than a human baby," she stated in a recent interview on British talk show This Morning. "The reason we don't carry them to full term is the people who have them don't comprehend it or think it's possible. I hope through understanding my body I will be able to. I don’t know what it will turn out like. Whether it would be in human form or spirit form - I don’t know."

Amethyst and her ghostly lover first met when she was on holiday in Australia, and Amethyst claims there was an immediate connection. Describing her ghost's proposal, she stated: "There was no going down on one knee - he doesn’t have knees. But for the first time, I heard him speak. I could actually hear his voice, and it was beautiful. Deep, sexy and real."

She added: "If you’re making love to a spirit, gender doesn’t really come into it. Ghost lovers tend to be more sensual and adept than the average bloke. There’s always more of a connection because the sex goes beyond physical. It’s like any other kind of sex. The main difference is I just can’t see them."

Social media users certainly didn't mince words when discussing Amethyst's bold claims. One Twitter user in particular seemed to be concerned for her mental health, and wrote: "This Amethyst Realm person has real, serious issues. Please stop giving her the attention she so desperately craves every time she wants to discuss her ghost boyfriend/baby/marriage/whatever. Get her the help she needs, rather than the spotlight she wants. [sic]"

I suppose that Amethyst's relationship is anything but conventional; but hey, as long as she's happy then I guess it's fine. Although, I shudder to think how the courts are going to cope if she ever wants a divorce.
