Woman spends $9000 inheritance on procedures to transform her into living Barbie
Although there are a number of things that I would love to change about my body, one route I would almost certainly never go down is the cosmetic surgery route. There are just way too many risks that you are exposed to when you go under the knife.
Besides, I'm pretty sure that if I had one surgery, I would develop an insatiable need to alter every little flaw that exists on my body. That's the thing about cosmetic procedures - they're highly addictive and once you've had one, you'll definitely open the floodgates to a load more. And eventually, something will go wrong.
When people undergo cosmetic surgery, it's usually because they are insecure about a particular body part or feature. However, some people use it as a means of turning themselves into a replica of a beloved idol. And for some peculiar reason, there are a number women opting for plastic surgery who aspire to transform themselves into a real-life Barbie doll.
One such woman is 22-year-old Jade Lyne of Bristol, England. She spent a whopping £7,000 ($9,000) from her inheritance on a pair of G cup boobs and has since become a webcam star. She makes up to £1,000 ($1,300) a week by popping balloons and showing her feet to admirers. In order to achieve the Barbie doll look, Jade fake tans every single day, and takes about five hours doing her makeup.
On an episode of British TV show 100% Hotter, the webcam star was made under by a team of experts (pictured above), and her current look is a far cry from the appearance the show helped her achieve. After her stint on the reality show, she moved into the fetish market as a webcam girl.
When asked about her new enterprise, she said: “I get paid by the minute, so I do have some quiet days, but if you put the time in, it pays well.
Here's a look at the sort of videos she treats her followers to:
“Obviously, a lot of it is taking off my clothes, but there are also lots of fetishes out there I had no idea about. Men have asked me to pop balloons on webcam, smoke, or show off my feet – this has opened up a whole world of things that people are into.”
Jade says she has never been made to feel uncomfortable by a client in spite of the saucy nature of the job and is sometimes just paid for speaking to lonely men. She admits that she immediately blocks people if they ask her to do something she is uncomfortable with.
Although her family is very understanding, she has had trouble with other people in her life who disapprove of her work.
“I told my mom, Kelly, a few weeks after I started, and she was shocked but supportive. She’s happy that I’m happy,” said Jade. “But lots of other people don’t like it. I’ve been called every name under the sun, but I don’t really care. It’s a job at the end of the day, not a reflection of who I am. When that laptop is on, I’m working, but when it’s off, I’m a normal person just like anybody else.”
Jade believes her unconventional look makes webcam work a great fit for her. As a kid, she always admired the Barbie-doll look, going on to bleach her naturally dark locks when she was 16 years old.
She then started experimenting with makeup, saying: “I’d gradually add more and more. A lot of other girls who do webcam work look like me, and I’ve always looked like this, so as silly as it sounds, I feel like I was born to do this.”
Having taken out her blonde extensions, Jade now wears wigs, which cost her around $38, meaning her hair takes less time to style. Doing her makeup, on the other hand, is a much more laborious task. She starts with layers of foundation, followed by false lashes, several coats of mascara, pink eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, lip liner, and gloss.
“It actually annoys me how long I take, but I’m never going to stop,” she said. “If I have all day, I’ll take all day. I’ll go back and forth adding to it. If I had the time, I could take about five hours sitting there, making sure it was perfect.”
Jade has also had four lots of lip filler which cost $320 each time. This is in addition to her $9,000 implants, which she paid for using inheritance money left for her by a late family member.
She explained: “I got my boobs done when I was around 19. It wasn’t purely cosmetic, I had lots of problems with my natural chest. It was asymmetric, and my nipples were inverted. It made me incredibly self-conscious. Nobody ever saw my chest. Even with my boyfriend at the time, I’d always keep my bra on and would stuff it with loads of tissue.”
She added: “I went from an A cup to a G. I haven’t had any other surgery yet, but I’d love the full works if I could.”
The trend of "Human Barbie" transformations is often credited to Ukrainian model and entertainer Valeria Lukyanova, after several pictures of her went viral online roughly a decade ago.
And speaking to GQ, Valeria explained how she sees no problem in people's desire to look like the way they want, even like the iconic toy doll: "Everyone wants a slim figure. Everyone gets breasts done. Everyone fixes up their face if it's not ideal, you know? Everyone strives for the golden mean. It's global now."
Valeria still loves to showcase her remarkable "Barbie-like" figure:
These days, Valeria has "toned down" her looks, but she still has a huge following on social media, with 515K followers on Instagram. Perhaps it is this level of fame Jade aspires to?
Although she has always loved her look, Jade decided to go on 100% Hotter in 2016 in a bid to tone it down a little. But despite the fact that her loved ones adored the more natural look, she admits she felt more self-conscious than she had ever been before.
“The show was perfect for me, as I’m definitely meant to be fake,” she said. “What they did was lovely, but it just wasn’t for me. Most people would feel uncomfortable looking how I do, but I felt uncomfortable like that. I just couldn’t relax I love my Barbie look. I don’t want to look like everyone else – I want to stand out.”
In just a matter of weeks, Jade ditched her make-under and is now back to her glamorous "OTT" self. She is also currently in a new relationship with a man she does not wish to name, however, she does believe her extreme appearance has had adverse effects on her previous relationships.
“My new guy doesn’t mind my look, he never says anything about it but it can put some men off. They make assumptions about me, which are actually totally wrong,” she said. “I’ll get loads of creepy, explicit messages from men on Facebook – but I know they’re only doing it because of what I look like. I just ignore them.”
“People can react negatively to me and say nasty things. I’ve even had photos taken of me, but it doesn’t bother me. It stresses my Mum out as she wants to protect me and doesn’t want me upset.
“But I love being OTT. Whatever the weather, I’ll be glammed up in a dress and heels, because that’s what makes me happy.”
She continued: “I’d never judge someone else for what they look like, so people shouldn’t do the same to me. Each to their own. I’ll never be put off by comments, though. I’ll be fake until I die.”
There is definitely a fine line between being in control of your own body and being obsessed with changing everything about it. We can only hope that Jade's life as a Barbie doll is, indeed, making her a happier person in the long run.
