Amazing pictures show worshippers gathering in Mecca for last Friday of Ramadan

For Muslims all around the world, visiting Mecca is a spiritual requirement. The haji, the holy pilgrimage, is one of the five pillars of Islam - the central tenets governing the laws of the religion. As a result, every year during the month of Ramadan, a huge influx of pilgrims travel to Mecca in western Saudi Arabia, gathering around the Kabbah to prostrate themselves before one of the holiest sites in the world.

The last year has been a scary time for many Muslim people in the aftermath of the infamous Christchurch massacre, in which a white supremacist terrorist massacred a number of innocent worshippers at a mosque in New Zealand. However, the local population has rallied around the Islamic community in the affected area, and now biker gangs have reportedly pledged to defend worshippers in the aftermath.
