Driving can be extremely stressful, especially when you're on long journeys at high speeds, on highways, motorways and expressways. Realising at the last minute that you're about to miss your turning is one of the most frustrating things to happen, as it can mean you've both wasted time and potentially gotten yourself lost.

However, taking sharp turns to make your exit is not a good idea - even if it might be more convenient for you. I remember being taught during my driving lessons that even if you've gone the wrong way (even in a driving test) it's best to keep going calmly, choosing to turn off wherever you next can. If you choose to make any drastic last-minute decisions on the road, it might end up fine for you, but for everyone else on the road it's an unpredictable manoeuvre that could spell disaster.

Saying that, for all the people who cut off other drivers or try and make their turning at the last second, not many would outright stop in the middle of a busy road - especially when the cars in the area are going so fast. However, one driver in China decided to do just this, and things didn't end well for those around them.

Captured by a traffic camera on the Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway, which is also known as the G25, the driver of this white car came to a complete standstill. Police in Huzhou City, located in East China's Zhejiang Province, explained that the driver's actions caused complete havoc.

In the footage, you can see the white car stop for a prolonged amount of time. In the middle of two lanes, they slowly turn to their right, meaning that the incoming red truck had to swerve out of the way. This being a large vehicle moving at a high speed, that swerve really did a number on it.

You can see the crash this caused, as well as its after-effects, in the video below:

Huzhou Traffic Police have since reminded drivers to keep moving forward, and take the next exit if you miss your turning. According to WeMedia, they released the following statement for those taking to the road in the future:

"When driving on the expressway, be sure to pay attention to the signage.

"The driver should pay more attention to the warning on the right side of the road while driving.

"Be prepared in advance, decelerate in advance to avoid missing the exit. In the event of a missed intersection, you don’t have to be too flustered.

"The safest way is to drive on and then wrap around at the next exit. If you miss the exit, all you have to do is keep moving. Absolutely do not slow down, do not brake, do not change, do not hesitate."

While few of us will do something quite as stupid as the driver did in this instance, it's best we all follow the above instructions perfectly - to keep our roads as safe as possible.
