KFC slams McDonald's in tweet inspired by Trump's 'nuclear button'
We don't know a lot about North Korea, but the little we do know is terrifying. Under Kim Jong-Un's cruel dictatorship, citizens can get executed for the most innocuous things, like having a drink, calling a friend or even just slouching. What's more, North Korea has called recent U.N. sanctions "an act of war," and fired 23 missile tests that are capable of reaching the U.S. mainland. And according to the latest intelligence, these missiles are tipped with anthrax. (Hope you sleep well tonight!)
Obviously, there's a lot of tension between North Korea and the United States. Instead of handling matters diplomatically, President Trump spent 2017 trading childish insults with Kim Jong-Un on Twitter. He called Kim "short and fat" and nicknamed him "Rocket Man." Meanwhile, Kim sentenced Donald to death, and said war with the United States was "inevitable." If Donald made a New Year's Resolution to stop mud-slinging on social media, he broke it just one day later, writing this Tweet yesterday:
"North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the “Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.” Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"
The president's combative response and petulant tone drew a lot of criticism and alarm (and wet pants). After all, it's not the campaign anymore. Talking trash to crazy dictators on Twitter can have frightening real-world consequences.
However, there was one unexpected, lighter consequence, involving one of Trump's favorite things: fast food. Today KFC UK & Ireland posted a Tweet inspired by Trump's 'nuclear button' threat. But instead of attacking Kim Jong-Un, they attacked a different crazy leader with weird clothes and bizarre hair: Ronald McDonald, the redheaded clown mascot from rival fast food chain, McDonald's:
"McDonald’s leader Ronald just stated he has a “burger on his desk at all times”. Will someone from his big shoed, red nosed regime inform him that I too have a burger on my desk, but mine is a box meal which is bigger and more powerful than his, and mine has gravy! #nuclearbutton"
While there's nothing funny about nuclear war, KFC's Tweet is pretty hilarious. So far the satirical threat's been retweeted over 45,000 times and gotten more than 100,000 likes. Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell where Trump stands on this issue. He famously loves both fast food joints. (Although rumor has it he's secretly colluding with Russian Donuts.)
McDonald's hasn't responded to KFC's Tweet yet, but it's fair to say that eating at either one of those "restaurants" will declare nuclear war on your digestive system. Hopefully the beef between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-Un turns out to be just as (not) serious as the beef between Ronald McDonald and Colonel Sanders. (All four of those dudes look pretty crazy to me.)
