Gamers all around the world have been eagerly anticipating the release of the PlayStation 5 games console. Yet hardware developers Sony have been pretty damn tight-lipped about it. Thus far, we still don't have a release date for the machine, or even so much as a picture of its design. All we know is that it's coming and that it'll be awesome when it arrives.
However, at a recent Sony investor relations meeting, the company demonstrated some vital things about the PlayStation 5, including an intriguing video showing the differences between the loading time of the new console compared with its predecessor. Here's everything we know so far:
Check out this comparison of the PS4's loading time versus the PS5's:First of all, we know that load times are going to improve significantly, especially since open-world games are growing more popular. For example, thanks to its superior processing power, when PS4 takes approximately eight seconds to load Spider-Man, the PS5 does the same in less than a second, including for dynamic maps which load portions of a game as the player progresses
According to the information released at the very same event, the PlayStation 5 will additionally support 8K graphics, 3D audio, SSD storage, and backward compatibility with PS4 games. However, there's been no word on whether or not customers can play PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles as well.
In a recent interview with Wired, lead system architect Mark Cerny stated that VR and enhanced audio are also important features, stating: "As a gamer. It's been a little bit of a frustration that audio did not change too much between PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. With the next console, the dream is to show how dramatically different the audio experience can be when we apply significant amounts of hardware horsepower to it."
He added: "I won't go into the details of our VR strategy today. beyond saying that VR is very important to us and that the current PSVR headset is compatible with the new console."
Sadly, investors were also told that the current lifespan of the PS4 will be another two-three years. Still, I can't wait for it to come out; it sounds like it will be mind-blowing!
