Carrie Underwood 'not quite looking the same' after requiring 40-50 stitches in her face

Back in November last year, country singer Carrie Underwood suffered "multiple injuries" after falling on the steps just outside of her home. At the time, the 34-year-old seemed to play down the incident, and reported that she had only sustained a few "cuts and abrasions", as well as a broken wrist.

She did have to undergo surgery on the broken bone, but she didn't really offer much more detail on the operation other than to say that she would now be setting off metal detectors at airports. Already, though, it seemed like the injuries were a little more serious than a few cuts and scrapes.

A more recent update from the star has confirmed suspicions that she might have been hiding some details about her fall, as she has now revealed that she has had between 40 and 50 stitches in her face.

In a post to her fan club, Underwood admitted that “There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” adding that, “it’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”

She continued: “In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told [Underwood’s husband] Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”

The singer has not yet released any pictures of herself since the fall, but has said that "when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different."

Obviously, the star is most recognized for her voice - but she has made several huge public appearances during her career, including a show at the CMA Awards, which she attended just days before the fall happened.

In one of her most recent Instagram posts, Underwood was careful to conceal her face with a scarf. She claimed that it was to protect herself from the cold, but now it seems that she may have had other reasons to hide almost everything other than her eyes.

Despite the severity of the accident, Underwood is still looking at the positive side of things, and has expressed her gratitude that she did not sustain any worse injuries.

“I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful,” she wrote. “I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way.”

Overall, the note to her fans sounded optimistic, and she concluded by saying, "I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way."

By the sounds of it, she has a huge fanbase behind her, a supportive family to help her and a good attitude towards the situation - so we hope she feels better very soon.
