Demi Lovato caught flirting with Henry Cavill on Instagram using this masterful tactic
Despite being relatively new in the grand scheme of things, social media has completely changed how we communicate and interact with one another. On the one hand there are plenty of upsides, with those who live far away from their partners and families being able to speak and see their loved ones with ease. On the other hand, there are plenty of toxic behaviours that can arise from it, from cyber bullying and anonymous trolling to new forms of inappropriate behaviour.
While apps and websites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are accessible and easy to use, they are deceptively complex. While there may be less factors going into an online conversation than one in which you have to take into account tone of voice, expression and body language, there is some skill needed to navigate a message thread - especially when it comes to crushes.
It's hard enough if you're trying to come across as interesting through the use of specific emojis, but when you're trying to make a move you require even more finesse. If flirting is about subtlety, then the direct communication instant messaging offers flies in the face of such exploits. If you want to put yourself on someone else's radar, you need to do so with a mix of boldness and delicacy that few can muster.
One person who seems to have their online flirting game on point is Demi Lovato. As well as being an accomplished singer, songwriter, and actress, Lovato also has 65.4 million followers on Instagram. While that may be seen as a good thing, it did set up at least one follower to notice some recent activity on her account.
Lovato had previously dated actor Wilmer Valderrama, but the couple announced the end of their relationship in June 2016, and it seems like she's been playing the field recently. Speaking to ET Online in October last year, she said that she was still trying to find herself before jumping into anything new.
"I value my time by myself now, and I value my time with my friends," Lovato said. "And I just have learned to really appreciate my me time and getting to know myself and learning to fall in love with myself before I fall in love with anyone else."
However, that hasn't stopped her from using a subtle tactic to flirt with Henry Cavill, the hunky actor best known for playing Superman in several films.
One Twitter user spotted that Lovato had started following Cavill, but what happened over the next 30 seconds made her intentions clear.
In a smart move, she followed him, then shared a photo of herself in lingerie, before liking two more of Cavill's posts straight after.
When you think about it, this is a great way to get his attention - but it also got the intention of internet users around the world.
Eventually, her strategy got some results, as Cavill liked and commented on one of her posts soon after.
Maybe we can all learn something from Demi Lovato's Instagram game.
