Anna Farris finally addresses the Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence affair rumours
Anna Faris and Chris Pratt met in 2007, and after that became likely one of the funniest celebrity couples around. Faris, who had made her name in her breakthrough role in the Scary Movie series, then a recurring role on Friends, came across Pratt while they were playing love interests in the film Take Me Home Tonight. They started dating shortly after, became engaged the following year, and were married by 2009.
Faris, who also appeared in supporting roles in acclaimed films such as Lost In Translation and Brokeback Mountain, stayed with him for a further eight years, having a child with him in 2012. Sadly, the two broke up earlier this year, which the actress announced in August. Many of their fans were gobsmacked by the news, but the conversation about the couple quickly turned to rumours.
Prior to the break-up, Pratt had been doing a long promotional tour for his film Passengers, along with his co-star Jennifer Lawrence. In the sci-fi blockbuster, the central focus is on the relationship between the pair's characters, but their closeness appeared to extend beyond the film. From a prank war to joking in interviews, the two of them clearly got on well, and many started to look more closely at their relationship.
This of course lead to many assuming they had started up a relationship, with even the most innocuous images of them being used by many as proof of their secret relationship, escalating to the point of blaming Lawrence for the couple's split. Now, after months of ignoring the rumours, Faris has spoken of them in her new book Unqualified, which touches on the break-up.
The book is based on her advice podcast of the same name, which she launched in November 2015. The podcast featured human interest stories, relationship advice to listeners, and interviews with celebrities. The spin-off book, which actually has a foreword written by her former husband, describes the advice she received from her publicist before Lawrence and Pratt started working together:
"Even before they met in person, my publicist, out of the blue, pulled me aside and said, 'Anna, listen, there are going to be paparazzi all over them,' she said. 'There are going to be shots of them laughing together on their way to set. There are going to be stories circulating, and you have to brace yourself for this'.
"I didn't think it would bother me. I've been in this business a while now and I had seen Chris star alongside other beautiful women, like Aubrey Plaza and Bryce Dallas Howard."
The actress, who is also a producer and model, described her interaction with Jennifer Lawrence after the rumours started to surface:
"Jennifer and I really are friendly, and she was apologetic even though she didn't need to be, because she hadn't done anything wrong.
"She's awesome, but of course it's hurtful and also embarrassing when people are saying your husband is cheating on you, even if it's patently untrue. You still feel, and look, like a fool."
It's bad enough when you go through a break-up and start to wonder whether your ex has moved on before you, but imagine seeing rumours across the internet too. Luckily it seems like Faris, Pratt and Lawrence all reacted in the most mature way possible.
