These celebrities are campaigning to free sex slave who has been jailed for killing their abuser

If you are a world-famous celebrity, you are in a position in which you can influence the lives of others at just a touch of a button. Whether it is encouraging the public to donate money to an ongoing catastrophe, such as Kim Kardashian did during the Puerto Rico crisis, or imploring the young to vote in the election - celebrities have the power to make a real difference in this world.

And now a small army of celebrities are putting their public platforms to good use. The group are campaigning for the release of a young woman who was sentenced to life in prison after she killed her sex trafficking captor.

Cyntoia Brown was trafficked by a violent pimp who went by the name of Kutthroat. She was verbally, physically and sexually abused by the man before she was sold, at the age of 16, to a 43-year-old Nashville real estate businessman, Johnny Allen.

However during a fatal confrontation in 2004, Brown feared that Allen was planning to kill her and grabbed for one of his guns before killing him. She was sentenced to life in prison and is not eligible for parole for at least 51 years. Brown is currently serving her sentence inside the Tennessee Prison for Women.

Her case has gathered public attention and the hashtag #FreeCyntoiaBrown has gone viral. The post that is being shared features a picture of Brown, as well as outlining her story.

"Imagine at the age of 16 being sex-trafficked by a pimp named "cut-throat". After days of being repeatedly drugged and raped by different men you were purchased by a 43 year old child predator who took you to his home to use you for sex. You end up finding enough courage to fight back and shoot and kill him."

"Your [sic] arrested as result tried and convicted as an adult and sentenced to life in prison."

"This is the story of Cyntoia Brown. She will be eligible for parole when she is 69 years old."

After the story went viral, the likes of Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Cara Delivigne have lent their support to help Cyntoia in the face of this injustice.

Kardashian claims she has called her powerful legal team in order to see what can be done to help Brown, saying:

"The system has failed. It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & do what’s right."

The British model Cara Delevingne also echoed Kardashian's sentiments, posting an Instagram post in support of Cyntoia.

Lastly, a very passionate Rihanna also joined in, writing:

"did we somehow change the definition of #JUSTICE along the way?? cause..... Something is horribly wrong when the system enables these rapists and the victim is thrown away for life! To each of you responsible for this child's sentence I hope to God you don't have children, because this could be your daughter being punished for punishing already!"

Brown, now 29, has completed her degree behind bars and is working on her bachelors. She currently works as an unpaid consultant for the Juvenile Justice System.

Hopefully, with these powerful voices behind her, we might see Brown finally get the justice that she deserves.
