Elon Musk's mom becomes a cover girl aged 69
They say age is just a number, but how true is that? Everywhere you look, actors, musicians and reality stars seem to be getting younger and younger. Take Kylie Jenner, for example. She's only 20 years old, and already making progress in starting the next generation of celebs.
If things keep going the way they are, pretty soon the public eye will be populated by nothing other than Millennials and Gen Z-ers. Fortunately for us, however, there are some older people out there who are still working to maintain age diversity in the celebrity world.
Maye Musk, the mother of Elon Musk, the man behind of PayPal and Tesla, is one such individual. The 69-year-old was recently announced as one of CoverGirl's new faces, and part of what the brand described as a "line-up of fierce women leading the charge in breaking boundaries in beauty".
And wow, does she look stunning.
The mother of three and grandmother of 10, who turns 70 next year, is no stranger to modelling, either. Over her 50-year-long career, Musk has been featured in publications such as Vanity Fair and Vogue, as well as appearing as the face of brands such as Target, Virgin America and Clinique.
Oh, and her Insta is pretty fire.
Seriously, this woman is old enough to be my grandmother, yet she pulls off a quiff a million times better than I can (trust me, I've tried). And it's all natural, too. "I don’t dye my hair," she said in an interview with the New York Times. "It’s so fabulous. I had brown hair for so long. I was always getting my roots done. Sometimes I did it myself because I couldn’t afford to go to a hair salon."
Speaking on her campaign with CoverGirl, she added:
"I just love that CoverGirl wants to do diversity. They haven’t had a model this old in their campaigns.
"I’m turning 70 in April of next year. I think that women will be really inspired to see that even at 69 you can get a beauty campaign.
"Ageing has been good for me. You develop confidence, you’re able to handle the knocks a little easier. I model for my age. I’m not trying to hide it and say I’m 50. I’m so proud that I’m going be 70."
She's got excellent support from her family, too. Elon took some time out of his (probably very busy) day in order to tweet his congratulations upon hearing about her news:
I know that being an inventor, a scientific genius, and a literal billionaire is pretty cool, but having a supermodel for a mom is also up there in the rankings. Elon must be pretty proud of her, as she should be proud of herself. Alongside the likes of Jane Fonda, Helen Mirren and Susan Sarandon, Maye is just one of a handful of women who are providing positive representation for older generations, and reminding us that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and ages.
Let's just hope she keeps it up before the next generation of Kardashians start taking over.
