Eminem's daughter has turned 22 and people are wondering where the time has gone
By now, we have all enjoyed the festivities involved with Christmas and the holiday period, followed by the night that is New Year's Eve. Either a huge let-down due to expectations or a wonderful time spent with loved ones, it ends with celebration that a new year will bring better things to us all. Regardless of how bad your previous year has been, it's hard not to get caught up in the feeling that you can make the next one one to remember.
Yet along with this comes the inevitable realisation of how old you are getting. More so than any birthday, finding out that it's been ten years since your favourite TV show hit the air can really drive home how much time has passed. Seeing child actors grow up, or teen stars hit adulthood, is a little strange to say the least. This is definitely the case when it comes to Eminem's daughter.
Many of us will know Hailie as frequently being the subject of the rapper's songs, particularly his 2004 hit song Mockingbird. Hailie is the only daughter Eminem shares with ex-wife Kim Scott, a woman with which he had a particularly tumultuous relationship with over the years. After Hailie's birth, the couple got married, before divorcing in 2001.
Despite telling Rolling Stone that he "would rather have a baby through my penis than get married again", he and Kim married again in 2006, before splitting shortly after.
When he was asked what being a father meant to him, Eminem told Rolling Stone:
"Not missing things. If there's anything important going on, regardless of what it is, I'm there. Helping them with homework when you can. At the grades my older ones are in, it's hard. I never even passed ninth grade. They're already way smarter than me."
While all of this may feel fresh to some of us, having heard him speak of his little girl not too long ago, Hailie is not so young anymore. Born on December 25, 1995, she recently turned 22 years old, and she has changed as much as you can expect in the interim.
Hailie left high school summa cum laude - meaning she received over 3.9 GPA - and gave a heartfelt tribute to her parents in the school newsletter at the time. Naming them the "most influential during my lifetime", stating that "My mother and father are because they have pushed me to be the person I am and have given me all the support to achieve what I have".
During her high school years, Hailie was a member of the National Honor Society, the Art Club, the Key Club and Student Council, and also received the school's Academic Excellence Award and the Department of Psychology Award. Hailie, who was also crowned homecoming queen, is now attending Michigan State University.
It looks like Hailie is doing incredibly well in her life so far, which is some good news to help us handle how old this reveal makes us feel.
