While viewers in the United Kingdom might be best acquainted with James Corden thanks to his role in creating and starring in the surprise hit BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey, fans the world over now know him as the host of the Late Late Show and star of stage and screen.

Yes, it has been a meteoric rise for Corden; once of Barry and Billericay, now of sunny Los Angeles and the filtered corridors of Hollywood.

As well as casting -for better or worse- an indelible print on the cultural landscape through the veritable entertainment monster truck that is Carpool Karaoke, Corden has appeared in a bevvy of movies including the regrettable, somewhat unsettling Cats, Into the Woods and more.

Yet the Late Late Show host hasn't forgotten his roots, and recently appeared on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway via video link from his home in Los Angeles, to discuss an infamous prank the pair played on him back in 2016.

However, it was Corden's "posh" accent that seemed to baffle viewers more than anything else.

Twitter users were certainly taken aback by what they viewed as an unusual change in Corden's accent.

One tweeted the simple question, "Was James Corden always this posh?"

A third seemed equally baffled, writing "Why’s @JKCorden so posh all of a sudden?? #SaturdayNightTakeway"

For his own part, Corden joked with the pair that he would be using his time in self-isolation to plot a way of getting them back for the prank. He said;

"This has made me really remember how wonderful it's going to be to get you both back.

"That's what's going to get me through this whole time!"

Whatever gets you through the time, I guess!
