Kanye West has reportedly bought his wife Kim Kardashian a hologram of her late father as a 40th birthday present.

Taking to her official Twitter account this week, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star shared an image of the incredibly-lifelike hologram of her late dad, Dream Team attorney Robert Kardashian, with her 67.1 million followers.

Kim recently opened up about how her celebrity status affects her parenting in the following video:

Per the Independent, the futuristic projection is the work of a production company named Kaleida, and relies on an optical illusion to give the impression of a three-dimensional image.

Uploading a short clip of the hologram, which shows a middle-aged Robert Kardashian speaking, singing, and even dancing while wearing a tasteful beige suit, Kim wrote:

"For my birthday, Kanye got me the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime. A special surprise from heaven. A hologram of my dad [...] It is so lifelike! We watched it over and over, filled with emotion."

In a follow-up post she later added:

"I can’t even describe what this meant to me and my sisters, my brother, my mom and closest friends to experience together. Thank you so much Kanye for this memory that will last a lifetime Here’s a more close up view to see the incredible detail. [sic]"

The second video contains a speech from Robert Kardashian, in which the hologram appears to address his daughter and express his pride in her.

The hologram can be heard saying:

"Happy Birthday Kimberly! Look at you! You're 40 and all grown up. You look beautiful just like when you were a little girl.

"I watch over you and your sisters and brother and the kids every day. Sometimes I drop hints that I'm around.

“Remember when I would drive you to school in my tiny Mercedes every day and we would listen to this song together."

Earlier this week, the Kardashian family came in for criticism on social media after Kim threw a lavish birthday party on a private island in the Caribbean in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

The trouble began when Kim shared a number of pictures from her birthday celebrations on Instagram. In a caption addressed to her 190 million followers, the reality TV star wrote:

"40 and feeling so humbled and blessed. There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter.

"For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today."

She added:

"Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.

"After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.

"We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is."

A number of social media commentators were less-than-impressed by Kim's post and took to Twitter share image macros parodying her sentiment during a global crisis:
