Kelly Ripa pays emotional tribute to 'good man' Luke Perry following his death
Tributes are still pouring in for Luke Perry after his untimely death on Monday.
The beloved 90210 star passed away at Saint Joseph Medical Center, Burbank, California after suffering a stroke the week before; he had been rushed to hospital on Wednesday February 27, but reportedly never regained consciousness.
Every story that has come out since reveals the actor, who was part of the Riverdale cast at the time of his passing, to be a kind and compassionate individual who was good to his fans, kind to his neighbours and had an adorable habit of bringing balloons on flights.
The latest person to celebrate his life is Kelly Ripa, who was visibly upset talking about Luke while hosting her show, Live With Kelly & Ryan.
On Tuesday, the TV presenter - who seemingly became friends with Luke after her husband Mark Consuelos began playing Veronica Lodge’s father on Riverdale - claimed she was still "stunned", and had woken up the day after his death thinking it wasn't real.
"It’s a tough day around here, it really is," the 49-year-old former soap star said. "We lost great friend to the show; a great guy. Luke Perry passed away yesterday very, very, very shockingly. And I am still stunned. I woke up this morning thinking that there had to have been a mistake."
She proceeded to name the 52-year-old "a good man" who thought about his children "constantly".
"I have to say, this was a good, good man," she said. "You won’t see a person say otherwise. He is a good man, a good soul. Conscientious, a gentleman, a dear friend of our family… of the 'Live' family." At this point, Ryan Seacrest also shared his memories of Luke, saying: "He charmed us, he entertained us, he made us smile."
Kelly, who guest-starred on one episode of Riverdale, ended the segment by stating: "Our thoughts are with his family, of course, and his beloved children who he really thought about constantly. Like, that’s why he, like, went to work. They really were in his thoughts all the time."
The actor’s rep confirmed his death on Monday in a statement that read:
"[Luke Perry] was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, stepfather Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder and other close family and friends.
The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time."
On Tuesday, his daughter Sophie broke her silence on his passing, saying that she was "grateful for all the love".
"A lot has happened in this past week for me," she wrote in a post on Instagram.
"Everything is happening so fast. I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support. I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I."
She continued: "I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly."
